What's new

Better Inventory 1.5.0 (NeoForge 1.21.1, Fabric 1.21.1, Forge 1.20.1, Fabric 1.20.1)

  • New: sort keys (suggested by Rune !! on Discord, and asked for in the CurseForge comments). The inventory screen has two small keys between the 5x9 and your main inventory: the left one sorts the 5x9, the right one sorts the main inventory. The backpack screen has the same pair next to the "Inventory" label: one sorts the backpack page you are looking at, the other your inventory below it. Hover a key and it says what it sorts and draws a line round those slots.
  • Sorting first merges equal stacks, as far as your stack upgrade lets a slot go, then lays everything out from the first slot. Nothing leaves the area you sorted. The hotbar, armour, off-hand, tool rack and upgrade slots are never touched, and a slot you locked to an item keeps what is in it.
  • Two orders: by type (the game's own item order, so the same kinds of items end up side by side) or by amount (what you have most of first). Right-click a sort key to switch; your choice is remembered.
  • New key binding: "Sort the slots under the pointer", without a key by default. Give it one under Controls and it sorts whichever of those areas the pointer is over.
  • Inventory Profiles Next is asked to keep its own sort buttons and hotkeys off these two screens, and on NeoForge Inventory Sorter is told to leave them alone: both would move items this mod keeps in place.
  • New option: swap only the armour pieces the second set has (suggested by dougrious on Discord). The bar between the two armour grids swaps your worn set with the stored one piece by piece, and so far a piece facing an empty slot of the other set moved across too. With armor.swapEmptySlots turned off, only pieces that have one to change places with are swapped: a second set of just boots swaps the boots, and your helmet, chestplate and leggings stay on. Pressing the bar again puts everything back. The option is on by default, so nothing changes until you turn it off.
  • Fixed: Quark's "Sort Container" deleted items (reported by WaffleEndeik). Quark merges stacks as far as the item allows, and with this mod an item allows as much as the largest stack upgrade, so 64 and 64 oak slabs in a chest became one stack of 128, which the chest cut down to its 99: 29 slabs were gone. Quark's sort now merges only as far as one slot of what it sorts holds: an ordinary full stack in a chest, as without this mod, and your stack upgrade's size in your own inventory. Every Quark sort is also counted, and put back as it was if anything would go missing. The stack mode (VANILLA or HUNDRED) made no difference to this and need not be changed.
  • NeoForge and Fabric 1.21.1: a container no longer cuts a stack down to 99. Chests, barrels, shulker boxes, hoppers, furnaces, the trading slots, chest minecarts and boats and mob inventories cut whatever they store to 99, and with stack upgrades a stack can be larger, so another mod that sorts or moves items by the item's own maximum, a hopper taking in a big pile from the ground or a villager picking one up could delete the rest. Such a stack is now kept whole.
  • Fixed (Forge 1.20.1): Quark sorting your inventory lost items when a slot held more than 64 (with a stack upgrade). Mods that put items into your inventory through Forge's item handlers, Quark's sort among them, now fill a slot up to your stack upgrade, as everything else does.
  • Inventory Profiles Next sorts with ordinary clicks, which the server carries out under the slots' own rules, so it cannot lose items this way; this mod's own sort keys already merged only as far as a slot holds.

The server does the sorting: update the server too. On a server that is still on an older version the sort keys simply do not show. The armour option and the Quark fixes are server-side as well.

The order is also the option inventory.sortOrder (TYPE or COUNT), in config/betterinventory-client.toml on NeoForge and Forge and in the client section of config/betterinventory.json on Fabric.

The armour option is armor.swapEmptySlots (true or false) in config/betterinventory-common.toml on NeoForge and Forge (on NeoForge also in the mod's config screen, under "Armor Swap"), and in the common section of config/betterinventory.json on Fabric. On a server the server's file decides, for everyone on it.
