Description

The Nether's piglin fortresses, finally worth the trip
Better Bastions replaces every bastion remnant with a huge, procedurally generated piglin fortress. Walled citadels with a keep and a spire, hoglin ranches with a terraced pit, treasure vaults around a lava lake, a hundred-block bridge over the lava sea… and no two of them are ever the same.
It only changes world generation: server-side, no dependencies, vanilla loot, and it works with every mod that knows what a bastion is.

Four layouts

🏰 The Citadel — a walled piglin town: curtain walls with battlements and lava falls, four corner towers, a gatehouse with a portcullis, barracks along the walls and a three-storey keep crowned by a spire. The courtyard has a lava fountain, braziers and (in crimson forests) giant fungi.
🐗 The Hoglin Ranch — a terraced pit full of hoglins behind fences, roofed stalls stacked with wart bales, a gabled feed store and a bridge with the stablemaster's platform above the herd.
💰 The Treasure Vault — a hollow fortress around a lava lake. Galleries ring the walls on four levels, a gilded spire bleeding lava rises from the lake and the hoard sits on top of it, guarded by brutes. Two of the four bridges to it have collapsed.
🌉 The Great Bridge — a 100-block arched causeway over the lava sea with a gatehouse at each end and a fortified tower in the middle. One span fell long ago; the piglins patched it with planks.
Five biome styles
The biome under the bastion decides its look:
- Nether Wastes — classic blackstone, gold and magma
- Crimson Forest — nether wart roofs, shroomlights, weeping vines, giant crimson fungi
- Warped Forest — warped wart, twisting vines and soul lanterns
- Soul Sand Valley — heavily ruined, soul fire braziers, bone ribs rising from soul soil
- Basalt (modded Nether biomes) — basalt columns and polished basalt

What makes them feel alive
- Garrisons: piglins with their weapons, brutes guarding gates and treasure, hoglins in the stables
- Lava falls pouring from gilded spouts, lit windows, hanging lanterns and banners in the style's colour
- Weathering: erosion holes, cracked bricks and rubble that make every bastion look old
- Real interiors: barracks with mezzanines, a throne hall, spiral staircases, galleries, stalls, vaults
- Procedural: every bastion is generated from the world seed, so each one is different

FAQ
Do I need a new world? Only for new chunks: bastions that already exist stay as they are. Explore new parts of the Nether (or a new world) to find the new ones.
Does it work on servers? Yes, and only the server needs it: it only changes world generation.
Is it compatible with Incendium / BetterNether / Regions Unexplored…? It uses the vanilla biome tag #minecraft:has_structure/bastion_remnant, so it spawns wherever those mods allow bastions, and picks a style from the biome's name.
Can I use it in my modpack? Yes. MIT licence.
Forge? Yes on 1.20.1: the same file works on Forge 47 and NeoForge 1.20.1. Newer versions are NeoForge only.
Fabric? Not for now.
