What's new
New
- Coral reefs. Warm and lukewarm oceans now have reef flats on the shallow sea floor.
- Live rock. The reef is built out of it. It is porous, it sits in water properly, and some of it is inhabited. The texture tells you which, if you bother to look.
- The mantis shrimp is back. It lives inside live rock and comes out only at night, and each rock decides only once. Mining the rock does not let it out. Take a nice piece home, put it in your aquarium, and find out in the evening what you brought with it.
- It defends its burrow and ignores you anywhere else. Its strike is a spring, not a swing: it spreads its clubs, winds up for a second, then hits twice, once with the club and once with the bubble collapsing behind it. The shockwave shatters glass and corals nearby.
- Two corals, cauliflower and violet whip. Both grow only on live rock or on themselves, so a coral farm always means rocks in the water, and rocks in the water sometimes mean shrimp.
- Violet whip coral fluoresces, clearly. Cauliflower coral glows faintly.
- Corals bleach out of water. Shears or silk touch bring a living coral home; anything else gets you the skeleton.
- Live rock left out of water dries into limestone, and it can be smelted into it as well. Limestone breaks into lime powder, so wet brick finally has a source that is not a dead gnome.
