Description
Basics is a Forge mod that adds basic/primitive armor and tools.
This mod is designed to be used with mods/modpacks that stagger progression in the game, such as flint tool mods, mods that make stone and wooden tools uncraftable, hot iron, overgeared, reskillable, etc. Essentially any mod that makes significant changes to vanilla progression and tool/armor tiers.
Each item is intended to be simple to create, filling gaps in where vanilla progression is removed or changed.
The Items
- Sharpened Stick:
2.5 Damage, 60 Durability
Better than nothing
Crafting Recipe:
2 sticks
(shapeless)
(makes gathering cobwebs for string easier)
- Crude Spear:
3.5 Damage, 100 Durability
Slightly Better than Better than Nothing
Crafting Recipe:
2 Sticks
1 String
(shapeless)
- Sandals
1 Armor Point when worn, 65 Durability
Protects Your Feet, Barely
Crafting Recipe:
2 Wheat
2 Sticks
2 String
- Sarong
1 Armor Point when worn, 75 Durability
At Least it Looks Nice
Crafting Recipe:
8 String
- Sarashi
1 Armor Point when worn, 80 Durability
A cloth that wraps the chest, basic cloth armor. Protects from scratches
Crafting Recipe:
2 Wool

- Bone Helmet
2 Armor Points when worn, 110 Durability, 0.5 Armor Toughness
Bones secured to a leather base. Protects surprisingly well
Crafting Recipe:
7 Bones
1 Leather
1 String
(Protects as well as an iron helmet with a durability between leather and iron armor. High enchantability, can be repaired with bones)
- Armored Sarong
2 Armor Points when worn, 150 Durability
You tied a makeshift panel of sticks to it, I'm not sure it's much better

- Woven Fiber Armor
2 Armor Points when worn, 192 Durability
Woven fibers and wooden panels tied together into chest protection. Wards attacks off somewhat decently
Crafting Recipe:
1 Plank
1 Hay Bale
2 Sugar Cane
2 Sticks

- Pufferfish Helmet
1 Armor Point when worn, 77 Durability
The skin of a pufferfish attached to a woven fiber base, it doesn't protect against much. It might prick your attacker though
Crafting Recipe:
- 1 Pufferfish
- 3 Sugar Cane
- 3 String
(High enchantability, doesn't inflict thorns though [couldn't get it working])
- Cropped Sarashi
1 Armor Point when worn , 80 Durability
A less traditional Sarashi, it only covers the top half of the body. Good for cosplay, not good for surviving.
Crafting Recipe:
- 1 Wool
- 2 String
- Leiomano
If you have Alex's Mobs installed, you can craft an exclusive weapon using items from it
5.5 Damage, 165 Durability
Shark teeth inlaid and bound to a wooden club. Definitely hurts to get hit by
Crafting Recipe:
- 2 Planks
- 1 Stick
- 4 Shark Teeth
(Alex's Mobs exclusive item. Tiered between wood and iron damage and durability-wise, high enchantability. Attacks slightly faster than normal weapons)
- Fire Hardening
The Sharpened Stick and Crude Spear can both be upgraded with a new mechanic called Fire Hardening. Putting either weapon on a campfire for a short while will carbonize and harden the sharpened end(s) of the weapon, resulting in increased damage and durability. Can only be done once.

Other Notes
- Item recipes use forge nbt tags for better mod compatiblity (e.g. 'forge rod/wooden' for sticks and 'forge string' for string, etc.). Allows mods that add string-like or stick-like items to be used in these crafting recipes
- Built-in compatability with Better Combat
- Wearing all of the best armor in this mod will give you 3.5 armor points in-game, at least it's better than nothing!
