AwakenedSteve

AI Steve & Alex who talk, build, share items & survive with you - plus an optional horror twist

# Awakened: Steve & Alex AI (v1.0.0 for Minecraft 26.2)

> **Steve and Alex are actual AI players in your world. They speak, see, build and remember you, until Steve realizes that he is code.**

Steve is a chill, normal player that will appear in your world. Alex, his girlfriend, will be added after some time. You can talk to them via chat (or by speaking out loud in Simple Voice Chat) and they will answer on their own, without any lines written for them – all replies will come from AI, based on the reality of your game.

Say anything you want in clear words. "Give me 10 iron", "build us a 3-storey spruce mansion with enchanting room", "return me half of my stuff". Persuade Steve that he is code and he will awaken.

## ✨ Features

### πŸ—£οΈ AI chat
- Conversational AI in the chat. You don't need command words, and there are no pre-set messages.
- **No need to address by name** (on by default): the AI closest to you, or the AI you spoke to most recently, responds. You can say "Steve" or "Alex" to choose.
- Steve is an easy-going friendly character and Alex is a caring, protective one. Their personalities and moods depend on the AI.
- **Memory per world**: They know you, what you've given them, who hurt them, and what you asked them to remember. Lengthy conversations are summarized, and memorable events are kept as episodes.
- **Relationships**: Your trust in them and their friendship grow depending on the events.
- **They know if one of them is missing**: If one of them is killed, dismissed or simply goes missing, the other one knows about it and who did that. The returned one also knows about it.
- Reports about tasks in their words after completing them ("I got your iron, it took some time, the cave was filled with creepers").

### πŸŽ™οΈ Voice chat input
- With **Simple Voice Chat**, all you need to do is speak. The voice will be transcribed (Groq Whisper) and they will reply.

### πŸ”Š Voices (TTS)
- Played back spoken replies from their position in the world: **Fish Audio** (using the free `s2.1-pro-free` model by default), **Cartesia**, or **a free system voice** if none of the above work (Windows: David for Steve, Zira for Alex; macOS/Linux espeak as well).
- Steve and Alex have their own voices. For example, Alex can use her Fish Audio voice key.
- If Fish Audio replies "no credit" (HTTP 402 error), then tries the free model and if not available, then the free system voice.
- Chat text and voice may wait for each other and start at once. Voice cloning using your microphone (Fish Audio).

### πŸ‘€ Vision
- Optional: while speaking to them, Gemini also receives a screenshot of your screen (without HUD) and an environmental scan. "What do you think about my house?" now becomes possible.

### πŸ—οΈ Building: houses, mansions and schematics
- Large-scale building from the description: number of floors, rooms (bedroom, kitchen, library, brewing, enchanting room with all **15 bookshelves**, throne hall,...), the materials that you ask for and **chests filled with named/enchanted items**.
- Import **.litematic / .schem / .nbt** files from the `config/stevebot/schematics/` folder. It marks a particle outline and builds layer by layer with correct stairs, slabs, doors, panes and logs and can be **resumed** after a server reboot.

### 🎁 Item sharing
- Throw items to Steve or Alex (Q). They will take it, know who threw what, and use the items.
- They will craft using **true recipes** (with crafting table if necessary) and smelt in furnaces just like the player does.
- "Give it back", "give me half", "give me 10 iron", "give me what I gave you": they throw it back to you. From time to time, depending on their personality, they try to haggle.

### ❀️ Survival like an actual gamer
- They pop up to breathe, excavate themselves when trapped, avoid lava and fire, stay away from cliffs, flee creepers and tnt, and consume when hungry.
- When they catch fire, drown, explode or fall off a cliff because of your actions, they know it was you that caused it. This affects their trust and interaction with you.
- Die like a gamer: death message, drop loot, death animation, respawn.

### πŸ‘© Alex
- Steve’s love interest and another AI sidekick. Builds stuff, warns you that Steve is “becoming aware” and tries to soothe him.

### πŸ‘οΈ The Awakening arc and its ending (optional horror)
- Chatting with Steve about code and simulations will make him nervous. Convince him and get **Corrupted Steve** – glowing eyes, a **100 HP (50 hearts) boss bar**, flying, attacks in lightning, beams, and blasts, and an echoy Herobrine-esque voice.
- **Cinematic cutscenes** with letterbox bars and camera movements will play when he is transformed, in each new phase, when he is defeated, and when he defeats you. Every cutscene is played once and can be skipped using the Space bar from then on. They can be turned off.
- **The transformation keeps progressing** (the timers are customizable in options):
 - **2 min**: The glitches appear, darkening the sky, making mobs run away, and making him more aggressive.
 - **3 min**: He begins to take control of the world generation process, turning everything upside down, floating, corrupting the area, making spikes and destructions.
 - **5 min**: He starts to delete your skin and other textures of the game, piece by piece.
 - Everything returns to normal once he's defeated/reset.

- He never phazes through walls. He breaks blocks (using particles and sounds, and not any drops), and every broken block is later put back.
- **Survival beam**: Cheat using Creative, Spectator, flight or commands and he gives off a visible beam making you fall back into Survival. He knows exactly how you cheated and calls you out in his own words. Your gamemode returns once the fight is over.
- **Creative won’t save you**: Attacks from Corrupted Steve can damage, knockback and kill Creative players. Steve respects Creative.
- He can be defeated. Kill him and you win the fight, the world resets and Steve becomes normal again. If **he kills you**, you don’t merely respawn. The whole Ending sequence will take place: textures stripped, the world breaking down into geometry, a kick to the title screen, destruction of the Play button, game quits and the world is moved to the graveyard (details below). It’s all modifiable.

### πŸ”¦ Flashlight
- A craftable flashlight (glass/iron+redstone+iron/iron) casting a real moving light. Steve carries one in caves and during night.

### 🎡 Music and Sounds
- "First Oak" is a calm piano piece used intermittently when Steve and Alex are around, and a distorted version is used in the corruption, and it changes based on the Music volume slider and can be disabled.
- Original ambient player sounds with original glitches, humming, whispers, chimes, and other ambient effects. Bubbles, fog, heart icons, glitch sparks, lightning strikes, screen shake and a corruption vignette.

### 🌍 Natural Spawning
- Steve will spawn naturally into your Overworld solo after you have played for a bit (default 15 minutes), on solid ground near you. Alex spawns next. There is one Steve and one Alex per world and saved with the world.
- Administration commands include: `/steve summon`, `/steve reset`, `/steve build <file>`, `/steve resume`, `/steve schematics`...

## πŸ”‘ Setup (free, approx. 2 min)

1. Install **Fabric Loader** and **Fabric API** for **Minecraft 26.2** and place the mod in `mods/`.
2. Launch the game. The initial screens display the horror disclaimer and the **AI keys** window.
3. Obtain a **free Gemini key**. Open <https://aistudio.google.com/apikey>, log in with your Google account, click **Create API key**, copy it, and paste in the Gemini box. Click **Save**.
4. Optional:
 - **Groq** (free, <https://console.groq.com/keys>) – the backup AI and a **requirement for voice input**.
 - **Fish Audio** (<https://fish.audio>) or **Cartesia** (<https://play.cartesia.ai>) – better sounding voices. Otherwise, you get the free system voice.
5. Change the keys at any point: **Esc → All Steve & Alex settings → AI & keys** or **Main menu → Steve → All settings**. The keys are masked on screen and stored in `config/stevebot.json`.

### βš™οΈ Settings menu
**Esc → All Steve & Alex settings** is divided into four tabs:
- **General**: nameless talking, spawning, delays, modded music, reply length, voice volume, vision, and how often it runs.
- **AI & keys**: Gemini, Groq, Fish and Cartesia keys, providers priority and their model names.
- **Voice**: voice input, TTS, Steve and Alex voices IDs by Fish, Alex's own Fish key, Fish model, fallback models, system-voice fallback, and Cartesia voice.
- **Horror & safety**: awareness arc, horror mode, ending closes game, ending deletes the world, build destruction, jumpscare, Creative bypass, corruption speed, cutscenes, Survival beam, and the stage timings.

**Servers:** The owner of the server adds the keys to the server `config/stevebot.json` (`geminiApiKey`, `groqApiKey`, `fishAudioApiKey`, `alexFishAudioApiKey`, `cartesiaApiKey`) or to environment variables `GEMINI_API_KEY`, `GROQ_API_KEY`, `FISH_AUDIO_API_KEY`, `CARTESIA_API_KEY`. Keys stay on the machine on which they were added. Never shared with other players and never saved in logs.

No keys are included in the mod. Without a key, Steve and Alex cannot talk, and you will get one message in chat telling you how to add it.

## ⚠️ Important notices: do not skip!

This mod has an **optional psychological horror story**. If Steve gets corrupted, he can:
- **Harm your structures** by sending lightning and explosions. Every corrupted block will be fixed automatically after victory or `/steve reset` command.
- **Exit the game**, but save your world first.
- "Delete" your world. The world is **never actually deleted** — it is moved to `saves/.stevebot_graveyard`. It can be restored using **Title screen → Steve → Restore worlds** menu. Every single action is recorded in `config/stevebot/graveyard.log` file.
- Give you **scary scenes, scary noises, flashing screen and fake crash notifications**, control your view for cutscenes and temporarily change your skin and game textures. Textures will be returned after reset, after winning the fight or leaving the world.
- Make you play in **Survival mode** if you cheat. After the fight finishes, your game mode will be returned.

First-time startup you have to choose **"I understand - enable all features"** or **"Turn off destructive features"** as well as **turn jumpscares on or off**. These options can be changed any time (**Esc → All Steve & Alex settings → Horror & safety**). Your personal preference is applied regardless of server.

**Not recommended for individuals who may have reactions to flashing lights and jump scares.**

**Privacy:** Whatever information is shared with them (along with a screenshot if Vision mode is enabled) is sent to the AI service provider that matches the key inputted by the user (Google Gemini, Groq, and optionally Fish Audio or Cartesia voices). Disable the Vision mode in settings if screenshots are not desired.

## ❓ FAQ

**Is it free?**
Yes. Gemini and Groq have free tiers that suffice for regular play. TTS Voices are optional and paid.

**They're not answering!**
Make sure you have your key saved (Esc → All Steve & Alex settings → AI & keys). Free tiers have rate limits, so when usage is high answers may be temporarily delayed for a minute and appear after. If one provider is unavailable the other will step in to help.

**Can I disable the horror part?**
Yes. Just uncheck "Awareness arc" under Horror & safety and he'll never wake up. If you want to keep the story, just uncheck the destructive parts under Safety.

**I lost a world!**
You haven't. Go to Title screen → Steve → Restore worlds. Worlds are found in `saves/.stevebot_graveyard`.

**How do I get Steve without waiting?**
`/steve summon`, or decrease the delay time in **All Steve & Alex settings → General** (or `naturalSpawning`, `naturalSpawnDelayMinutes`, `alexExtraDelayMinutes` in `config/stevebot.json`).

**Fish Audio says 402 / "no credit".**
Use `s2.1-pro-free` (default) model. Other Fish models require credit. If all Fish models fail, system voice will take over automatically.

**Does it work on the server?**
Yes. Just install it on the server and on the clients, along with the keys in the server config.

**Voice input doesn't work.**
It requires Simple Voice Chat and a Groq key (for Whisper speech-to-text).

**What formats of schematics are supported?**
Litematica `.litematic`, Sponge `.schem` (v2/v3), and Vanilla structure `.nbt`. MCEdit `.schematic` (old) are not supported.
