AutoToolSwap automatically switches away from tools and weapons at low durability, so you never accidentally break your favorite pickaxe again.
How it works
When an item you're holding (main hand or offhand) drops below the durability threshold — 10% by default — AutoToolSwap instantly switches to a replacement:
- Same item first (iron pickaxe → iron pickaxe), otherwise the best available tier in the same tool class (netherite pickaxe worn out → your iron pickaxe)
- Searches your inventory and inside shulker boxes
- No replacement found? It switches to a safe hotbar slot and warns you instead
- If you deliberately switch back to the worn item twice, the mod respects your choice and stops interfering until the situation changes
Shulker box integration
- Singleplayer: replacements are pulled out of shulker boxes in your inventory fully automatically
- Servers: the mod tells you a replacement is in a shulker box — the swap completes automatically the moment you open the box (or a chest containing one). Works on vanilla servers, no server-side install needed.
Worn item handling (configurable): keep it in your inventory, drop it, or store it in the shulker box you take the replacement from.
Configuration
In-game config screen via ModMenu: durability threshold (1–50%), which categories to monitor (tools, melee weapons, bows/crossbows, shields, shears), offhand monitoring, shulker search, notifications (action bar, chat, sound). Localized in English and Danish.
Requirements
- Minecraft 26.1.2 (Java Edition), Fabric Loader 0.19.3+
- Fabric API and Cloth Config (required), ModMenu (optional, for the config screen)
- Client-side only — safe to use on any server
Never runs in creative/spectator, ignores unbreakable items.
