Unlike traditional backup mods that blindly zip your entire massive world folder (causing huge lag spikes and eating up your hard drive), Backup Manager operates on a Smart Chunk Tracking system. It intelligently monitors where players are exploring and only backs up the region files that have been loaded or modified! Whether you are playing locally or running a Dedicated Server, this mod silently works in the background on a separate thread, ensuring your gameplay remains butter-smooth while keeping your world safe.

๐Ÿ“– Quick Start Guide & Tutorial

Using Backup Manager is incredibly simple, and it works flawlessly right out of the box!

Installation: Drop the mod into your mods folder. First Launch: Start your game. The mod will automatically create a Backup Manager folder inside your config directory. Playing the Game: Just play! Every 10 minutes (configurable), the mod will automatically trigger an "Auto-Backup" in the background. You'll see a sleek, non-intrusive Toast notification on your screen showing the backup progress. Closing the Game: When you save and quit to the Title Screen (or safely stop your dedicated server), the mod will perform a Session Backup, safely storing your final progress and automatically cleaning up the temporary auto-backups to save massive amounts of disk space! Configuring: Open the API Screen in the title or options screen to tweak your backup intervals, toggle debug logging, or disable the toasts entirely.

Behind the scenes, the mod is packed with features designed to be as lightweight and efficient as possible:

๐Ÿง  Smart Region Tracking

  • Intelligent Chunk Watching: The mod actively tracks player exploration and converts chunk coordinates directly into .mca region files.
  • Delta Updates: It ignores untouched chunks! It will only back up the specific regions and dimensions that were actually loaded, explored, or modified during your session.

โšก Zero-Lag Threading

All backups, file walking, and copying run asynchronously on a background thread. You won't experience server freezing, rubberbanding, or lag spikes while the mod is securing your files.

๐Ÿงน Auto-Cleanup System

Auto-backups are incredible for crash recovery, but they take up space over a long session. Backup Manager is smart—when you safely close the server or exit your world, it creates one final "Session Backup" and automatically deletes all temporary auto-backups from that session to keep your drive clean!

๐Ÿž Live Progress Toasts

A sleek, vanilla-style Toast notification pops up in the top right corner of your screen while running. It tracks the exact percentage of files copied and notifies you of Success or Error states instantly.

Fully configurable file and folder Whitelists and Blacklists (found in backup-manager-configs.json). You decide exactly what gets saved and what gets ignored. Perfect for modpacks with custom data folders!

๐Ÿšจ CRITICAL WARNING: Disk Space Management

Because this mod runs in the background and allows you to whitelist specific files/folders, you must be very careful with what you tell it to back up!

DO NOT put high-size files or massive mod-generated folders into your Whitelist without properly Blacklisting the heavy elements inside them!

Because Auto-Backups run frequently, adding massive files (like pre-generated map caches, massive log files, or huge uncompressed mod data folders) will cause your disk storage to fill up incredibly fast and may cause massive wait times or IO bottlenecks on your storage drive. Only include essential, small files! The standard Minecraft region/dimension files are already handled automatically by the smart tracker, so you do not need to whitelist them manually.

โš ๏ธ Important Notes & Caveats

Client to Server Configs: The in-game settings menu only modifies the client-side config file. If you are setting up a Dedicated Server, you must configure the mod locally, close the game, and manually copy the general_configs.json file into your server's config folder! Disabled on Blank Worlds: If no one joins the server or loads chunks, the mod will smartly skip the backup entirely to avoid creating empty, redundant folders. Interval Settings: Auto-backup times are set in game ticks (default is 12000 ticks = 10 minutes). Be careful not to set this too low, or you will run backups constantly!

my personal settings: 

at 1200 ticks 1 minute for auto backups 2 minutes is also good.

backup sizes could be very small for example I have this config below and the minimum size it takes is 18MB if I only stay in one region so it depends on exploration and tracked regions, but the autoback stacks for now, for example its just running the backup process, but I will make it smart so it doesnt recopy same region twice if it does it before so its only the tracked regions between the 1200 ticks 1 minute time will be copied, this will save the temp space taken.
