Atomic Sky
One bomb. The weather does the rest.
Every nuke mod does the same thing: a big hole and maybe a potion effect. Atomic Sky plugs the bomb into ProtoManly's Weather instead, so the aftermath runs through the weather mod's own temperature, wildfire, wind, sky and calendar systems. Set one off and the world around it keeps changing for days.
The sequence
- Flash. Everyone with line of sight gets a white-out that fades over a few seconds.
- Crater. A bowl 240 blocks across and 45 deep opens up ring by ring over about ten seconds, taking trees and buildings with it. The floor is left glassed and scorched. Bedrock, obsidian and other blast-proof blocks survive.
- Heat pulse and dead zone. A ring around the crater as wide as the crater itself is baked dead as the front sweeps outward: grass to coarse dirt, farmland drained, shallow water boiled off, canopies burnt away, soil dried in the weather mod, fires on everything flammable. For another 100 blocks past that the heat and fires keep going, fading with distance. The wildfires then spread under the weather mod's own rules. The heat works on terrain only: it never burns players or mobs. After the blast, radiation is the danger.
- Shockwave. A ring of wind leaves the crater at 60 blocks a second and runs out nearly 400 blocks. It is injected into the weather mod's wind engine (500 mph at the front), so its wind-driven particles and smoke feel it, and it shoves players, mobs and items, shatters glass, leaves and torches, and rips doors and signs off near the center. You see it as a ring of dust racing outward, and the camera shakes as it passes.
- Fallout. Half a minute later a plume forms and drifts slowly downwind for twenty minutes. Under it the sky and fog go dark, ash falls as particles and settles on the ground as Fallout, a snow-like layer block. Anyone out in the open under the plume, or standing in fallout, gets Radiation Sickness: slow health and hunger drain that can kill you. Get under a roof, or wear the suit. Fallout crumbles away over six in-game days, or shovel it up.
- Nuclear winter (optional). Six in-game hours after the blast, temperatures on the weather mod's calendar start to fall, bottom out 18 degrees lower and recover after seven calendar days. Its storms, snow and seasons react.
- Mushroom cloud. Built from the weather mod's volumetric smoke, anchored over the crater, standing until the fallout stops.
Items
- Atomic Bomb: place it, arm it with flint and steel, a fire charge or a redstone signal, and run. It flashes red for ten seconds; sneak-click to disarm.
- Fissile Core: the expensive bit (netherite).
- Geiger Counter: right-click for fallout and winter readings where you stand.
- Radiation Suit: hood, jacket, trousers and boots. The full set keeps Radiation Sickness off.
Crafting

Server owners can remove the bomb and core recipes with blast.craftable = false.
Config
config/atomicsky-common.toml sets everything: blast yield, crater radius and depth, heat range and duration, shockwave range, speed and push, fallout delay, duration, radius and drift, radiation on/off, and nuclear winter on/off, length and temperature drop. config/atomicsky-client.toml controls the flash, mushroom cloud, particle density, dark sky and camera shake, so you can turn visuals down on weaker PCs.
Commands (op)
/atomicsky detonate [x y z] [radius]/atomicsky status/atomicsky clearand/atomicsky endwinter
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.0 or newer
- ProtoManly's Weather 0.17.x (required), and its dependency Veil
Only 1.21.1 NeoForge, because that is the only place ProtoManly's Weather exists. Install on both server and client.
Performance
Block work is budgeted per tick, the shockwave only scans its own ring, and the visuals are particles plus one fog tweak. A detonation stays playable on a mid-range PC; lower particleDensity if you need to.
FAQ
Does it work without ProtoManly's Weather? No. The whole point is that the bomb runs through it.
Does the fallout work with Mekanism's radiation? No, they are separate systems.
Does it respect claims? The blast ignores FTB Chunks claims the way TNT does. Keep it away from your base.
Modpacks? Yes, go ahead.
