Astra Region Editor

Visually select, fill, replace, clone, rotate and mirror block regions with a dedicated editor and undo.

Astra Region Editor

Select an area, see the result in the world, and edit it from a dedicated screen. Astra Region Editor is a building tool for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge, with visual selection, block replacement, repeated cloning, and undo.

Features

  • Select two corners with the editor tool. After the first click, the selection preview follows the block you are looking at.
  • Fill a region or replace a specific block or block state using a searchable block picker.
  • Copy, paste, cut, and delete rectangular regions.
  • Clone with X/Y/Z offsets and an R repeat count. Preview each destination before placing up to 64 copies. For example, Z = -10 and R = 6 places six copies at intervals of ten blocks.
  • Rotate supported block states by 90 degrees and mirror regions along the X, Y, or Z axis.
  • Undo edits, including overwritten block data and repaired fence, wall, and pane connections.
  • Keep the world visible between two independently scrolling editor panels.
  • Use English or Japanese menu labels. Some server status and error messages are currently Japanese.

Requirements and installation

  • Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.4.0 or newer within Forge 47.x, and Java 17. Tested with Forge 47.4.0. Fabric and NeoForge builds are not provided.
  • Put astra-region-editor-1.20.1-1.4.2.jar in the instance's mods folder without extracting it.
  • For multiplayer, install the same version on both the client and the server.
  • NGTLib and the original MCTE are not required.
  • This project was previously named Astra MCTE Edit. Replace its old JAR when updating; do not install both. Existing editor items keep the same ID.

Getting started

  1. In Creative mode, obtain World Editor from the Tools & Utilities tab, or use /give @s astra_mcte:editor.
  2. Hold the tool and right-click the first and second corners of the region.
  3. Press K, or Shift + right-click with the tool, to open the editor.
  4. Choose blocks for Fill or Replace, or enter Clone offsets and a repeat count, then run the operation.
  5. Press N to clear the region and paste target. Use Undo in the editor to restore the last edit.

Chisels & Bits integration

Chisels & Bits - For Forge is optional. With its Minecraft 1.20.1 / Forge 20.1.20 build, Clone preserves carved shapes, materials, and empty space. Repeated Clone and its Undo are supported; save-and-reload behavior has been tested.

This integration covers Clone and its Undo. Bit-level selection, placing a carved item through the held-block picker, and rotating or mirroring the internal carved shape are not supported. Rotate/Mirror rejects a region containing these carved blocks before making changes. Other Chisels & Bits versions have not been verified.

Permissions and limits

The editor requires Creative mode. Dedicated-server users and LAN guests also need operator level 2; the single-player world owner can use it in Creative mode.

Server administrators: editor operations do not post Forge's cancellable BlockEvent.BreakEvent. Claim/protection mods that depend only on that event may therefore not prevent these edits. Grant access only to trusted builders. Vanilla location restrictions, world boundaries, loaded-chunk checks, and permission checks still apply.

Operations are limited to 65,536 blocks and 256 loaded chunks, with additional data-size limits. Edits run in bounded steps over multiple ticks. Undo stores up to eight operations subject to memory limits and does not survive disconnects or server restarts. Make a world backup before large edits.

This is a block-region editor. Miniature blocks, world-data file import/export, OBJ conversion, and arbitrary-angle rotation are not included. Not every modded block's custom orientation data can be transformed. The full range of third-party mod combinations has not been tested.

The interaction workflow was inspired by MC Terrain Editor by ngt5479. Astra Region Editor is an independent implementation, not an official update from the original author. Original MCTE/NGTLib binaries and assets are not bundled. Chisels & Bits and its assets remain the work of their respective authors and are not bundled either.
