1.8 HUGE update:

  • NEW NAMESPACE - previous: moth_spider_dweller new: arphex. Mod package name also updated.
  • Tameable and rideable tarantulas! All four variations can be tamed by feeding them buckets of maggots or roaches (while they are attacking you!). They retain their strength and wall climbing abilities, plus you can jump by looking down. They will attack nearby enemies that attack you, or that you attack, even when you’re riding them. No way to leash them, so you would need an enclosure.
  • “Harbinger” hornets added! Now I have an analogous version of every vanilla arthropod. Spiders, bees->hornets, silverfish->realistic, endermites->mites. Hornets swarm you, stinging aggressively. They also attack bees, and have two size variations. Giant and regular variants.
  • Massive improvements to the spider moth sounds. Now it makes a continuous, adaptive/dynamic wing buzzing sound - directional audio setting recommended. Modulates in pitch and volume depending on how fast the dweller is moving in any direction.
  • Also added a new creepy hollow spider-like creaking sound that can play when it is stalking you. If you thought the sounds were scary before, now they are significantly more so.
  • The crawling animation wasn’t creepy enough. Instead of crawling after you like other dwellers, the spider moth will now simply turn into a cloud of black smoke when it is going through tight spaces, emphasising its ethereal demonic nature.
  • Massively improved grappling hook mechanics - wobbling massively reduced, and no longer will your head get stuck in the ceiling easily if you tether directly upwards. If it gets stuck, it will now disconnect after a second or two. Powering up mechanic now resets if the item is held in your main hand.
  • Scorpion realistic attack animations added
  • New name for moth curse: death omen
  • Spider larvae + tiny variant face grab animation fixed - it should now work reliably
  • New teleport ghost particles for when it teleports the dweller to you
  • Prevented dweller from being harmed by its larvae - if a larvae hits the moth dweller, it will heal it slightly now, giving more reason to kill off the larvae during the fight.
  • Rush-scare now respawns if a full spider moth is nearby.
  • Improvements to invisible stalker, preventing it from walking too close.
  • Extra texture variation added for the funnel web spider.
  • Clearly defined long range sounds and short range sounds for the spider moth, so that it will reliably play different sounds when further away.
  • Added measures to prevent the spider moth from getting distracted by animals when fighting back attackers
  • New full-featured potion effect “necrosis” - This powerful effect is the exact opposite of resistance. When you have it, you take more damage from attacks. The multiplier is: damage amount * ( (effect level + 3) / 2.5 ). It can scale to unlimited values (only 1 and 2 used currently). Gives brief wither hearts and scaled blood particles if you are hit while you have this effect. Funnel web spiders give 30 seconds of it at level 1.
  • New drop from funnel web spiders and giant hornets - Venomous fang. Used to craft another new item: Dagger of Dissolution. It gives necrosis to any entity that you hit with it, making it extremely useful at any stage of the game.
  • And yet another new upgraded version of the new dagger item - Abyssal Dagger, crafted with a Dagger of Dissolution and an Abyssal Crystal. This glows when targeted like the other abyssal tools, plus giving a higher level of necrosis on hit, plus providing invisibility when attacked along with slowing the attacker.
  • Mantle of Vitality now additionally provides immunity to necrosis.
  • Web hook webbed effect now stacks up a level each time the target is hit, just like it does with the spider widow miniboss.
  • Added additional more powerful version of the web hook - the Tarantula Tether. Add a netherite ingot and a block of mangled spider flesh to a sling hook to upgrade it to the Tarantula Tether, with double the reach and a faster projectile. Also deals damage and extra slowness when it hits an entity. The spider wall-climbing ability is now limited to the Tarantula Tether.
  • Spider moth summon structure now only works if you have a Bane of the Darkness in your inventory. Gives a message if you try without having one!
  • Improved second scorpion texture.
  • Blue spider blood particle added (for less than half health pets)
  • Modified dweller spawning mechanism to prevent potential glitches.
