What's new
IMPORTANT
This update makes major internal changes to many items, so please make sure to back up your world before updating.
Hotfix
- Fixed a crash that could occur when another mod added a third hand.
New Content
Spells
- Added "Thermal Slice": Slice through things like melting butter with heat.
- Added "Lightning Arrow": Where it hits does not matter. Hitting the target does.
- Added "Bloody Arrow": Defeated enemies drop an item that restores health. Common sense, right?
- Added "Sacred Arrow": Arrows that never miss are practically a staple of mythology.
- Added "Lunar Aim": A magical arrow imbued with the cold power of the moon.
- Added "Echo Arrow": Not a Vortex Fragment.
- Added "Lock-on Ray": Not very Minecraft-like at all, but I wanted to make it.
- Added "Quick Blink": Your standard emergency dodge.
Items
- Added "Spell-Reaper's Scythe": It looks like it was made to reap magic, doesn't it?
- Added "Full-auto Rapidcast Spellrifle": A rebalanced version of the Multi-purpose Staffrifle with only its rapid-fire functionality retained.
- Added "Charm of Monarch Bond": Treat your minions with care instead of throwing them away.
- Added "Emblem of Undying": A Totem of Undying you don't have to throw away after one use.
- Added "Mana Maneuver Gear": Not flashy, but it should be useful.
- Added "Quickcast Scroll Cartridge": Depending on your keybind setup, this can fill the role of actions like dodging by triggering spells instead.
- Added "Mantle of Shooting Star": Honestly, this is getting pretty close to a mecha action game.
- Added "???????? Transducer" (Malum only, hidden by default): For people who understand what “connect the staff” means.
Changes / Tweaks
In preparation for the 1.0 release, older content continues to receive extensive reviews and major balance adjustments.
Spell Balance Adjustments
- Thermal Process
- The damage portion is no longer blocked by Fire Resistance.
- The debuff portion is still blocked by Fire Resistance.
- Combustion Jet
- The damage portion is no longer blocked by Fire Resistance.
- Targets are now set on fire before damage is dealt.
- Harvest Moon
- While Craftsman's Delight is equipped, it can now shear sheep within its area of effect.
Item Balance Adjustments
- Reworked the Transcendence enchantment.
- Maximum level is now 1, and the level increase is fixed at +1.
- The range of items that can accept it has been significantly restricted and changed.
- Items that can no longer receive Transcendence after this rework will no longer benefit from it even if they already have the enchantment.
- Please check JEI for the current list of compatible items.
- Some items that previously could not exceed their spell level cap, such as Elemental Bow, can now do so.
- Transcendence is no longer mutually exclusive with Surge or Attunement.
- Reworked Elemental Bow.
- It can no longer use spells in its default state.
- Added 3 adjustment slots and 1 scroll slot.
- The scroll slot accepts the same types of spells as before, and the inserted spell is applied together with its level.
- As a result, enchantment-based spell level bonuses have been removed except for Transcendence.
- The overheat system is now shared across Schools instead of being tracked separately.
- Inserting a Recovery Rune into an adjustment slot restores the previous per-slot behavior.
- Inserting a School rune allows its spell power modifier to be changed in exchange for a mana cost penalty.
- Existing datapacks remain partially compatible, but some functionality has been removed, so reviewing them is recommended.
- Added 6 additional default supported spells, including existing spells.
- Drawing Elemental Bow in spell mode is no longer cancelled by taking damage.
- Ring of Spell Cast Parrying no longer activates while using Elemental Bow in spell mode.
- Reworked Multi-purpose Staffrifle.
- Changed its appearance.
- Removed rapid-fire functionality while aiming down sights.
- Added recoil.
- Movement speed is now reduced while aiming down sights.
- Changed to use adjustment slots and a scroll slot.
- It now casts its imbued spell instead of the spell selected on the spell wheel.
- Casting the spell selected on the spell wheel can be restored using an adjustment-slot item.
- Spells with cast times cannot be used by default.
- Adjusted cartridge return rates for ammunition used by Spellguns and similar items.
- 20% normally, regardless of item.
- 90% while Spellcaster's Ammo Pouch is equipped.
- The cooldown of Diamond Grandcast Spellgun and equivalent Spellguns is now extended by the spell's cast time.
- Twin Bladed Channeling Staff
- Its Channeling enchantment no longer summons lightning during thunderstorms.
- When Channeling triggers a spell with a cast time, the cooldown is now extended by that cast time.
- Its Riptide enchantment can now continue activating after the initial trigger.
- Added another way to obtain Silver Ring.
- This method exists in both 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, but is easier to use in 1.21.1 because it relies on Trial Chamber mechanics.
- Significantly expanded the spells supported by Protection Spell Supporter.
- Adjusted accessory drop rates from chests and changed the item pool.
- They may feel slightly rarer overall, but accessories added in later updates can now also appear.
- Accessories no longer appear from Ominous Vaults.
- This is mainly to follow dungeon reward changes made in Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks.
- Ring of Spell Cast Parrying now interacts with certain Malum mechanics.
- When the relevant conditions are met, the corresponding interaction is shown in the tooltip.
- The functionality itself can still be used even if those conditions are not met.
Other
- Significantly changed the internal implementation of items that can hold multiple scrolls through the Spell Calibration Bench.
- These items now manage spells in a way that differs from the standard Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks implementation.
- Their priority when being added to the spell wheel has changed, so checking spell order after updating is recommended.
- Even if an equipped item and another source provide the same spell, both are now added separately to the spell wheel, although they still share cooldowns.
- Items using this new system are eligible for the Transcendence enchantment.
- Changed the recast cast time of Commence Fire while Magi-Agent's Shoes are equipped from 0 seconds to 0.05 seconds.
- Added JEI display support for Arcanum In a Jar processing recipes.
- Scrollcaster Gauntlet now casts the spell currently selected on the spell wheel, similar to a staff.
- To use the spell selected directly on the gauntlet as before, it must now be configured through the Spellcaster's Workbench.
- Storage Stabilizer can now open the Ender Chest when right-clicked in the inventory.
- This consumes mana similarly to Summon Ender Chest.
- Mirage Avoidance now activates backward when cast without directional input.
- Adjusted Iron's Gems 'n Jewelry accessory effects that use the newly added intermediate materials. (1.21.1 only)
Bug Fixes
- Fixed Scrollcaster Gauntlet accepting the Efficiency enchantment.
- Efficiency never functioned on the item, so this does not reduce its performance.
- Fixed weapon-summoning spells with cast times, such as Slash Blade, not functioning correctly when duplicated through Echo Cast.
- Fixed Catalystbook of Chargecast not working with Ring of Spell Cast Parrying.
- Fixed damage that exceeded a Talisman of Mana Shield enchanted with Shell ignoring effects that intervene in damage, such as Malum's Soul Ward, and also causing abnormal death behavior when that damage was lethal.
- Fixed Focus Staffbow not displaying its trajectory preview when casting Artisan Smash.
- Fixed Twin Bladed Channeling Staff moving to a mob's feet when it hit the target.
- Fixed the final stair block sometimes having the wrong shape when extending stairs with Linear Build.
- Fixed Mirage Avoidance sometimes failing to begin movement in the correct direction.
- Fixed items with the Plunder enchantment sometimes granting the main-hand item the Looting enchantment. (1.21.1 only)
- Fixed Lure not functioning and Good Tides not being applied correctly when Malum was installed. (1.21.1 only, Malum 1.8.2 only)
- This is not an Apprentice's Codex bug, but Apprentice's Codex relies heavily on Iron's Rune of Protection, and obtaining Pufferfish through fishing had become difficult enough to justify a compatibility workaround.
- This fix only applies to Malum 1.8.2 and will stop applying if Malum is updated.
