Description
Ancient Warfare 2: M&B
I love Ancient Warfare 2, but the faction NPCs always felt like they were just standing around waiting for me. I wanted the world to feel more like Mount & Blade: factions that go to war with each other, cities that change hands, a lord to swear to and battles you get dragged into. So I started this fork of Ancient Warfare 2: Tweaked for Minecraft 1.12.2.
It is still a beta. I build and test it in single player with only AW2 and CodeChickenLib installed, so please back up your world before trying it, and tell me what breaks.
What changes in your world
Every faction structure with a leader becomes a city. It gets a name, a garrison and a pool of manpower: when a soldier dies another one comes back after a while, until the manpower runs out. Kill the leader and the city falls, or goes to whoever conquered it.
The factions are not frozen any more. They declare war, make peace and form alliances on their own, they get tired of long wars, and they hold grudges. When two factions are at war they send raids and sometimes full sieges against each other's cities: waves of infantry, archers and cavalry, and siege engines with engineers. The attackers open doors, break walls, put up ladders and lay planks over gaps to reach the leader. A big siege costs the attacking faction real manpower, so a faction that keeps losing gets weaker.
You in the middle of it
Talk to a faction leader and you can pledge allegiance. Its enemies become your enemies, and once they trust you its chests open to you. When your faction marches on a city, or one of its cities is attacked, you get called to arms with a place and a time to show up. Show up and you earn standing and pay in AW2 coins. Ignore the call too often and you get kicked out. Once you have enough standing you can propose campaigns to your lord yourself.
Or you go your own way: place a Town Hall away from other cities and you found your own kingdom. You pick its culture, talk to your governor to declare war or make peace, and order raids and sieges. You collect taxes from your cities, recruit soldiers and train veterans. Cities you conquer, or found with another Town Hall, become part of the kingdom.
Your soldiers can be commanded as a group with the command baton: grab everyone around you, then tell them to attack, hold their ground, follow you or fall back.
Good to know
- Needs CodeChickenLib, like the original Ancient Warfare 2.
- Almost everything is configurable in
config/ancientwarfare/AncientWarfareDiplomacy.cfg, with a description for every option: how often wars and sieges happen, how big they are, how fast cities recover, and so on. - The in-game AW2 manual has a new chapter, Wars and Kingdoms, that explains how it all works, commands included.
- Texts are English only for now.
- Not tested yet on dedicated servers or in big modpacks.
Credits
Ancient Warfare 2 and all its art, structures and NPCs are the work of Shadowmage, GotoLink, P3pp3rF1y, blahthebiste and everyone else who worked on it. This fork only adds the faction, war and kingdom side on top. It is GPL-3.0 like the original, and the source is on GitHub.
