AllTranslator

Translate item names, tooltips, chat and more using your own translation API (OpenAI-compatible, local LLMs, DeepL, etc.)

All Translator

Translate in-game text — item names, tooltips, entity names, chat, and more — using the translation API you configure.

Note: This mod does not provide a translation API. You need to register your own: OpenAI-compatible (ChatGPT, etc.), local LLMs (LM Studio, Ollama), Anthropic, Gemini, DeepL, Google Cloud Translation v2, or the free Google Translate web version (chat only).

Quick Start

  1. Install the mod (Fabric or NeoForge) and launch the game.
  2. Press M to open the settings screen and add at least one translation API.
  3. Under Translation Targets, turn on what you want translated. Everything is off by default to avoid unexpected API usage. The target language follows Minecraft's display language unless you change it in the settings.

Features

  • Existing translations first: Uses language files (Minecraft, mods, or config/alltranslator/lang/<code>.json) when a translation already exists. No API call is made.
  • Wide coverage: Item names, tooltips, entity names, player chat, /tellraw, /msg, /tell, /w, /teammsg, /title, advancement/recipe toasts, boss bar names, active effects, and some other mods' config screens (libIPN, UI Lib).
  • Per-item ON/OFF for every translation target.
  • Multiple APIs with automatic failover: Set priorities; the mod switches to the next API on rate limits, quota errors, auth failures, empty responses, or broken placeholders, and retries later.
  • Priority or Distributed mode: Distributed mode spreads requests across several APIs (e.g. LM Studio + Ollama).
  • Server support: Server-side per-player translation, per-player language, a server translation gateway (clients translate without holding API keys), and an in-game server settings screen for OPs.
  • Bulk mod jar translation: Detects mods with missing or partial translations and generates an always-on resource pack.
  • Persistent cache in the world save to minimize API calls.
  • JEI integration: Search items by translated or original (English) name.

Controls and Commands

Key / Command Description
M Open the settings screen
K Run /alltranslator refresh
/alltranslator enable / disable Toggle your own translation
/alltranslator status Show current status
/alltranslator language <code> Use a different language for yourself
/alltranslator refresh Clear API cooldowns and abort in-flight requests (OP)
/alltranslator config Open the server settings screen (OP)

/at works as a short form.

Using on a Server

The mod works on both server and client. When the server admin enables serverSideChatTranslationEnabled, the server translates chat for each recipient, and clients are notified automatically so messages are never translated twice. Client API keys are never sent to the server. With serverProxyTranslationEnabled, clients can use the server's API via the "Via server (proxy)" provider.

Privacy and Costs

  • Text from the game is sent to the translation API(s) you configure. Check each provider's terms and privacy policy.
  • Paid APIs may charge you for usage. Translation targets are off by default for this reason.
  • API keys are stored locally in config/alltranslator/credentials.json. Do not share or commit this file.

Tips for Local LLMs

  • Small (7B-class) models can take over 30 seconds on long text. Set "timeoutSeconds": "120" in the API's extraParams.
  • Lower the concurrent request count in settings if your machine struggles. Press K to abort stuck requests.
  • Small models may mistranslate proper nouns. Add corrections to config/alltranslator/lang/<code>.json as {"source text": "correct translation"}; they always take priority.

Known Limitations

  • The free Google Translate web version is unofficial, may be rate-limited or stop working at any time, and is chat only.
  • Anthropic, Gemini, DeepL, and Google Cloud Translation are implemented but not yet tested with real API keys. Please try with a small amount of text first.
  • /title is translated from the second time the same text appears.
  • Some mods' screens (e.g. Sodium, Cloth Config, YACL, owo-lib, MaLiLib) are not supported because they lack public APIs for text access.
  • There is no dedicated hook for block names; most are still covered through item names.
  • REI is not supported (it has no API for search aliases). FTB Quests integration is not available yet. Full details: see the README on GitHub.
