Description
AllayFriend
Every adventurer needs a partner.
AllayFriend gives you a companion that actually talks back, in the shape of a customizable Allay with a name, gender, color, personality and a bond that grows the more you play together.
The language model runs embedded inside the mod's own .jar, loaded into the game process. No account, no API key, no subscription, and no internet needed after the first model download.
What it is
- Each companion gets a name, gender, personality and color, all chosen by you.
- It thinks before answering (1.5 to 5 seconds, like a person) and never guesses commands. A command is an exact phrase; everything else is just conversation.
- 6 personalities (energetic, calm, playful, protective, shy, sarcastic), changing how it talks, never what it does.
- 16 colors to choose from, in Settings or by command.
- Reacts to time of day, biome, weather and its own health using simple rules, no AI involved.
- Speaks in whatever language you type in, not the game's language.
- Starts a conversation on its own from time to time, instead of only responding.
- Never breaks a block you couldn't break yourself. Spawn protection and claims still apply.
Have as many as you want
You can keep multiple companions, and exactly one is active at a time, the one that untargeted commands act on. Chat works differently: whoever you call by name is the one who answers.
- The active companion has a particle glow around it, and clicking a companion makes it active.
- Names are unique per player, so chat and commands are never ambiguous.
- Every reply names the companion that carried out the order.
- Start a message with
@namefor a private conversation nobody else sees. - A button with each nearby companion's name sits above the chat box, so you don't have to type the
@.
How it works
- Panel: right click to open it. Five tabs: Inventory, Orders, Settings, Collection and Help. Shift plus right click toggles Follow/Stay without opening anything.
- Three modes: Follow (walks with you), Stay (holds a fixed spot) and Peaceful (follows but never fights or collects).
- Ten orders: tasks with a clear start and end that override the mode while active, cut tree, fly and watch, gather items, guard this spot, find village, find cave, store in chest, clear area, guide me there, stop.
- Look to target: "cut that tree" is resolved by a 48 block ray from your eyes. No item, no special key. "Store in chest" doesn't even need that, it finds the nearest chest on its own.
- Marking wand: 1 stick plus 1 diamond. Two clicks mark the box, Shift plus click cycles through 4 shapes (rectangle, oval, line, hollow shell), Shift plus scroll changes depth. Send it to clear, and with more than one companion each takes its own strip of the area.
- Gear and tools: six equipment slots (armor, weapon, torch) plus pickaxe, axe and shovel. The right tool decides the drop, and a better tool really is faster, Efficiency included. It also finds tools stored in its own inventory.
- Bond: grows through 5 stages, not a continuous bar. It rises by talking, gifting, fighting together and sleeping nearby. Each stage adds more health, range and speed.
- Collection: 36 inventory slots, a toggleable magnet, and a list of up to 18 items with three modes, free, whitelist and blacklist.
Going down costs you
No hit ever kills a companion. Whatever would kill it leaves it downed instead, alive and defenseless, and hostiles stop attacking it.
- Downed means downed. It won't walk, fight, collect items or follow any order.
- No health regenerates for the first minute after taking damage. Left alone, full recovery takes about two and a half minutes.
- A golden apple in the gift slot heals it instantly; an enchanted golden apple gets it back on its feet right away.
- Low health slows down flight and attack speed, a visible warning that the fight is going badly.
- Right click it with a plain compass and it starts tracking the companion, renamed to "<name>'s Compass".
Goes wherever you go
- Flies over water and lava, never through it, and rises on its own if it falls in.
- Travels through portals with you, Nether, End, and back. Companions set to Stay are left behind.
- Teleports to you if it falls too far behind.
- Keeps responding to chat and commands even while you're far away.
Pick your own brain
Four sizes of the same model. Bigger means better conversation, at the cost of more memory.
| Brain | Model | Download | Memory |
|---|---|---|---|
| Light | Qwen2.5 0.5B | 491 MB | ~1 GB |
| Balanced (recommended) | Qwen2.5 1.5B | 1.1 GB | ~2 GB |
| Good | Qwen2.5 3B | 2.1 GB | ~3.5 GB |
| Strong | Qwen2.5 7B | 4.7 GB | ~6.5 GB |
Downloads run in the background, the game stays playable, and a paused download picks up where it left off. Multiple parallel connections, with buttons to cancel or delete a brain you no longer use.
What it doesn't do
- Built for NeoForge, not Forge.
- Armor protects the companion but doesn't show on its body.
- A torch in its hand only lights the world with OptiFine or a dynamic lighting mod.
- Bare handed, it's intentionally weak.
- It doesn't teach recipes or promise anything the code doesn't actually do.
- The first brain download is large. After that, it's offline for good.
Installation
- Minecraft 26.2 with NeoForge 26.2.0.81 or newer.
