Description
This mod improves movement and combat, and also adds new mechanics not only for players but also for mobs. Overall, the mod features: weapon blocking, dual-style combat, dodging mechanics, wall-climbing mechanics, and the ability to drag chests, workbenches and similar blocks containing items.
Blocking. One of the most significant mechanics in the mod is blocking with a weapon. Not only players but also mobs can block; indeed, almost all mobs that meet the criteria (this probably includes all vanilla mobs that bear even a slight resemblance to humanoids) can do so. Blocking works on a dice roll basis. Depending on the settings, each weapon has a certain chance of blocking an attack. For example: a sword has a block chance of 80%; in 8 out of 10 cases, the sword will block the attack, whilst letting two through. We could go on like this, but some weapons have an additional mechanic related to blocking. It’s called ‘Riposte’.
A ‘counter-attack’ deals increased damage and has a higher chance of piercing a shield, but it is only active for a short time after a successful block (default 1.5 seconds).
The second main mechanic is dual-style. It works simply: when the character holds, for example, a sword in each hand, they strike twice (each strike deals 70% of the weapon’s damage). The dual-style has several features and balance adjustments; for example, the previously mentioned damage reduction is one such balance measure. By default, weapons also attack 35% slower, and this calculation is based on the slowest weapon – in other words, you can’t pick up a sword and an axe and swing the axe as quickly as the sword. Taking all these changes into account, the DPS seemed a bit too low, so I added another mechanic! It’s called ‘Combo’. When you land 6 consecutive hits in dual-style, your attack speed resets to the standard rate of the slowest weapon, then, if you perform another series – that is, simply land another 2 hits – the speed increases by about 12.5%, then another 12.5%, and stays at +25% (to be honest, vanilla mobs often get knocked away right at the start of the combo).
Dodging. This mechanic was added because it complements the mod’s overall concept well. How does it work? There is no separate key for it: if you hold down the walk buttons for left, back or right and press the jump button, the character makes a sudden dash (I’ll add a full list of controls at the bottom of this description).
Climbing walls. I took the idea for this from the ‘Move Plus’ mod by Corosus. As the name suggests, this feature allows you to climb low walls up to 3 blocks high.
Manual crawling. This mod adds the ability to start crawling by holding down the sneak and run keys (by default, this is Shift + Ctrl). There’s not much else to say.
Quick block break. This mod also adds a block-dragging system. If a block is empty, it simply breaks instantly, but if it contains items, those items are added to your inventory and the block can be moved. It’s similar to the ‘Carry On’ mod by Tschipp. To start dragging, hold down the sneak button and break the block (Shift + LMB).
Mobs. There aren’t many changes to mobs, but there are some. The main thing is that mobs have learnt to block – not just with shields, but with weapons as well! Mobs such as zombies have a behaviour pattern where, if they’re not far from their target, they’ll sometimes activate their block. Blocking works in the same way as it does for the player, except that they sometimes deactivate it at the wrong moment. Mobs with shields also react to projectiles; that is, if you throw a snowball at a zombie with a shield, it will block it.
Spiders have also received changes, most of which are visual. What do I mean by that? Spiders now change position rather than simply crawling along the wall.
Another minor change is that if you land the final blow on a zombie, it may not die but start crawling instead (in this state, they cannot block, move slowly and deal less damage).
Spinning weapons and pointing with your hand, healing with cushions, sitting wherever you like. Here I’ll go into detail about the minor mechanics and changes that are more of an extra. I’ve added the ability to spin objects as a bit of a gimmick; it’s very simple but adds to the role-play, and there are two types of spinning. The first: any object, such as a weapon, food or an empty hand. The second: if you start twirling an object in ‘dual-style’, the player will perform a cool animation.
Pointing with your hand works simply: hold down Alt as usual, and the character will start pointing in the direction you’re looking.
The cushions have been modified so that if you sit on them for 15 seconds, you’ll receive a regeneration effect for as long as you remain seated on the cushion (I added this change so that my own seating would be at least a little different).
Sitting works simply. You just need to press the G key on a solid block.
The mod also adds the ability for humanoid mobs to sit down too, but it might not look great.
Controls. Blocking with the right mouse button (for spears and tridents, use Shift + right mouse button).
Dual-style: equip a weapon in your off-hand, then equip another weapon in your main hand. Simply attack an enemy and the second strike will be executed automatically.
You can also block with both hands whilst in dual-style.
Target a point: hold ALT
Spinning something: hold ALT + LMB
Dual Spinning: hold the same keys as for normal spinning, but with a weapon in both hands.
Sit down: Press G whilst standing on a solid block.
Riposte: Successfully block an attack only with a weapon capable of a riposte (spears and swords), without a shield and not in dual-style; after the block, you’ll have a brief window to land a strike with bonuses.
Dodging: for a dodge hold A, S or D and then press Space.
Wall climbing: Hold Ctrl and jump towards a wall
