Item pipes got a second grade — twice as fast, and thick enough to spot from across the room.

• The Advanced Item Pipe moves 4 items per second instead of 2, to every destination it feeds.
• You can tell the two lines apart at a glance. A steel body with an inspection window down the middle of every segment, noticeably thicker than the ordinary pipe.
• A line runs at the speed of its slowest pipe. One ordinary segment left in an upgraded line drags the whole line back to 2 — the same way a thin cable throttles power, and exactly why the new pipe is thicker: the piece holding you back has to be findable by eye.
• Built from the pipes you already have. Four ordinary pipes, four cupronickel reinforced plates and a silver plate give four advanced pipes, so the second grade cannot be reached around the first.
