Uranium is dangerous now — and that expensive reactor shell finally has a reason to exist.

• Uranium irradiates you. Ore and dust only make you queasy. Enriched uranium and fuel rods kill: a stack in your pockets is a death sentence.
• Distance saves you. Lethal right at the core, bearable a few blocks out, almost nothing at the edge. Backing off is a real tactic.
• Walls stop it. Casing, reactor glass and a closed airlock block radiation — an open door leaks it through the doorway, and only there. A reactor built with no room irradiates everything around it.
• Milk is your antidote. It clears the dose like any other effect. Keep a bucket handy near the reactor.
• Villagers get sick. A villager or wandering trader near uranium turns into a zombie villager and keeps its trades. A cow becomes a mooshroom. None of them die of it.
• Dropping uranium does not switch it off — and a shulker box is not a shield.

Fixed

• The reactor no longer pays for a column that is gone. Pull a fuelled column and the output drops at once, instead of a couple of seconds later.
