What's new

AI Companion 0.1.7

⚠️ Updating? Skill files in config/aicompanion/skills/ aren't overwritten automatically. Run /companion skills reset to get the rewritten farming/harvest skills and the new fishing one. Your versions are kept as .md.bak.

Farming, harvesting and fishing are a work in progress. Much more reliable than before, but the companion still needs supervision — it can narrate a job instead of doing it, build a field that isn't quite right, or need a nudge to empty its pockets. Play with them; don't leave them running unattended.

New

  • Token usage HUD — top-left panel showing session tokens, in/out split, request count, and a tokens-per-minute graph for the last 30 minutes. Only visible while a companion is out; F1 hides it. On a paid endpoint you'll spot a runaway companion within a minute instead of at the next usage report.
  • Fishing skill (/companion skill fishing) — finds water, fetches a rod if needed, and keeps fishing. It judges for itself when it's full, and won't stash the catch unless asked.
  • /companion skills reset [name] — restores built-in skills after an update, backing up your edits. No restart needed.

Fixed

  • No more going quiet or standing around mid-job. Telling it to stop left it with nothing queued; and a wave or an "I'm already on it" reply would silently cancel whatever it was doing, after which it kept reporting progress on a dead job.
  • The fishing float is reeled in on stop — it used to be left in the water forever.
  • farm no longer fails when the range is omitted (defaults to 16).

Improved

  • Roughly half the token usage per exchange while a skill is running. Invoking a skill adds its text to the conversation for the next ~30 exchanges, and the skills had grown large. Cut by ~50% with no rules dropped.
  • Farms usually sit level with the ground now. They were reliably landing on a raised dirt platform with water flooding the surroundings. Still model-driven guidance rather than a hard rule — ask it to clear and retry if you get a bad one.
  • Farming and harvest skills rewritten to use only actions the companion can actually perform. They previously described tilling and planting by hand, which it can't do — so it described the work convincingly and stood still.
  • Fields and paths are no longer built like houses — no more furniture in a wheat field.

Known rough edges

  • Field layouts vary run to run; the same request can come out flush or raised.
  • Harvesting can stall on a large field. Diagnostics added this release to track it down.
  • Harvesting is slow by design — it walks to each crop.
  • Nothing is stashed automatically; ask, and it'll interrupt the job to do it.
  • Results depend on your model. A weak or heavily quantised local model is more likely to talk about a job than do it.
