AE2 Void Technology

Description

Void Technology

An Applied Energistics 2 add-on built around a single idea: consume the inputs, return the outputs.

It is not a standalone machine but a chain that must be assembled in order. Structures are first placed into the world with the Void Stele; once enough of them exist, the Void Controller becomes operational, and once a Void Pattern Provider is placed next to an operational controller, the chain joins the ME network.

Two properties define how the chain behaves: the output is declared by the pattern, and can be any item; there is no processing time — an order is settled on the next tick.

Assembly order

  1. Place structures. Right-click the Void Stele, use Preview to check the bounding box, then Build to materialise the built-in structure. Repeat until the number of placed structures meets the controller's requirement.
  2. Unlock the controller. The Void Controller counts the structures around it. Below the required count it stays inactive and accepts no materials.
  3. Join the network. Place a Void Pattern Provider against the controller and connect the provider to the ME network with cable. Only when the adjacent controller is operational does the provider report patterns.
  4. Craft. Order from a terminal. The provider hands the inputs to the controller to be destroyed, then writes the products back into the network, and the crafting CPU settles the job.

There is no processing step. One server tick separates the disappearance of the inputs from the arrival of the products, regardless of what the product is or how much of it was ordered.

Output scope

What the provider returns is determined entirely by the pattern's declared output; it is not bound to a machine type or a throughput. Any item can be produced on the same setup, and no separate machine is needed per product. A single set of 54 pattern slots can serve any number of recipes: materials are consumed per order, products are written back per pattern.

Blocks

Void Stele handles preview and placement. Structures appear three blocks in front of the stele, centred left-to-right and level with the structure's lowest layer. The default structure is a 149 × 48 × 145 stone construction and can be replaced with a custom structure file.

Void Controller destroys materials and counts the structures around it. Its interface shows link state, current task and network state. It holds no ME grid connection and requires no cable.

Void Pattern Provider is based on AE2's pattern provider, with pattern slots expanded from 9 to 54, arranged in three rings of radii 40 / 60 / 80 holding 12 / 18 / 24 slots. It has no upgrade slots, accepts encoded patterns only, and accepts cable on all six faces.
