Description
# Spellcaster — Iron's Spells Ability Addon
Spellcaster is an addon ability for AbilitysgorwMOD. When you own and enable it, you can assign up to six learned spells from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks to an addon loadout and cast them from a radial wheel without spending mana.
## Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge 47.4.10
- Java 17
- AbilitysgorwMOD 1.0.8 or later
- Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks 1.20.1-3.16.3
- Iron's Lib 1.20.1-2.1.0
- Curios API 5.x
- Any additional dependencies required by Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, such as GeckoLib and Player Animator
## Installation
Place the addon JAR in the same `mods` folder as AbilitysgorwMOD, Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks, Curios, and their required dependencies.
## How to use
1. Obtain the Spellcaster ability and enable it in AbilitysgorwMOD. The default ability-list key is `K`.
2. Press `J` to open the loadout screen. Select one of the six slots, then click an available learned spell in the list to assign it.
3. To remove an assignment, select the slot and click **Clear**. This clears only the Spellcaster shortcut; it does not change your Iron's spellbook or scrolls.
4. Hold `L` to open the radial spell wheel. Move your mouse toward a spell, then release the key to cast it.
5. You can change the key bindings under **Options → Controls → Iron Spell Ability**. The cast key can also be bound to Mouse 4 or Mouse 5.
The addon only offers spells that Iron's Spells currently recognizes as learned and available. The ability and spell availability are checked again when you assign or cast a spell.
## Casting, cooldowns, and spell levels
Spellcaster casts spells without consuming mana, but cooldowns still apply. The addon tracks a cooldown for each spell and displays its remaining time in its own HUD. Iron's Spells' normal cooldown also applies.
Iron's spell level, cast time, target requirements, effects, and interruption behavior are used during casting. You cannot start another spell while you are already casting. The spell level is read from your spell containers, including Curios equipment, so later spell upgrades are reflected.
The addon uses Iron's command cast source to start a mana-free cast. Other addons that distinguish casts by their source may therefore treat these casts differently from normal spellbook casts.
The Strength effect provided by the existing Curios Ability Addon also increases Iron spell damage by +3 attack damage per Strength level. The addon does not modify the AbilitysgorwMOD base mod or the Curios Ability Addon files.
## Build and verification
Run `.\gradlew.bat verifyAddon` from the addon project folder to check the slot and cooldown rules, source integration contracts, and packaged JAR metadata.
Automated checks do not verify the in-game radial UI, key behavior, cooldown persistence, or compatibility with every installed mod configuration. Test those scenarios in your target Minecraft instance before using the addon in a live setup.
