What is The M.E.R.O. Expedition?

A total-conversion datapack and resource pack for Minecraft: Java Edition.

You've seen total conversion mods before. But have you ever seen a total conversion datapack? This datapack and resource pack aim to provide a unique take on the open-world, 3D sandbox that is Minecraft. That feeling of starting a new world, not knowing what to do, and figuring it out as you go, that you had the first time you played Minecraft, we're aiming to recreate here, in a completely new setting. Explore an alien world far from the planet filled with creepers and zombies, and discover a whole new world you've never seen before.

Custom progression. Custom visuals. Custom everything (soon).

Minecraft is an inherently creativity-based game with stunning, blocky visuals, and the progression is... well, it hasn't changed much since the game first released in 2011. While this works just fine for the base game, we wanted to take things in a different direction. For the initial release, you won't notice much different for progression, other than new materials replacing some of those that you're familiar with. However, we plan on updating progression in a way that encourages exploration, combat, and tinkering to unlock new items and recipes to enhance your loadout and your builds. On top of that, the pack fetaures custom textures for just about everything you'll find on the planet. Try out new building palettes you wouldn't be able to pull off in vanilla Minecraft, or explore the fancy new biomes and see some beautiful environments you've never seen before.

No mods. No hassle. Just drag and drop.

Yup, it's that simple. Just drag the resource pack to your vanilla client's resource pack folder, and when you're making a world, simply drag and drop the datapack in to the world's datapack folder. Just like that, you're on the M.E.R.O. Expediton. No mods, modloaders, launchers, or anything else required (besides, of course, a copy of the game).

Plans for the Future

Since this project was made for the 2025 CurseForge Mod Jam, we couldn't squeeze everything we wanted to into the initial release, so it's still in early alpha. However, we have big plans for this project, including new biomes, mobs, combat systems, bosses, progression mechanics, building blocks, improved visuals, and more. Stay tuned for the next major update, you won't want to miss it.
