Description

Cobblemon Generous Drops

Note: There are two versions of this pack, one for use with Cobblemon: Legendary Monuments, and one for use without it.

Overview:

Ever feel like Cobblemon's Pokémon don't drop enough? This pack aims to fix this! This pack was designed to help balance the Cobblemon gameplay experience for playing on modpacks with vanilla mob spawns disabled. This mod:

  • Ensures that every single* vanilla mob drop or mob-dependent item (e.g. wither roses) is obtainable through Pokémon drop loot, and usually through at least 5 different evolutionary lines.
  • Adds new vanilla items to the loot pools of most Pokémon. Usually no more than 3 total vanilla items or 5 total items to help reduce inventory clutter.
  • Increases loot quantity for all drops because:
    • Many farms can't be made
    • Looting doesn't apply to Pokémon (even when killed with a looting weapon)
    • Pokémon are harder to kill (especially with a mod like Fight of Flight)
  • Does not increase drop rates for Cobblemon items (e.g. held items), as those are already balanced for Pokémon battles being the only way of obtaining those items.
  • Larger, rarer, and stronger Pokémon drop more loot, encouraging players to take a challenge rather than just farming weaker Pokémon.
  • Special attention is given to food. Without mobs, players have to rely on Pokémon for dropped food, or rely on farms.
  • All music discs have unique, hand-picked assignments.

*Goat horns are not obtainable. I wanted to make Skiddo and Gogoat drop them, but could not find a way to have them drop a random one.

How it works:

Item Drops:

All item drops are sorted into four tiers of item, which determines the limits for how rare and common they can be.

  • Rare: Wither Skeleton Skulls and Totems of Undying
  • Uncommon: Blaze Rods and Ender Pearls because of rarity, Rotten flesh, Ghast Tears, Scutes, Nautilus Shells, Phantom Membranes, and Rabbit's Feet because they just aren't needed in large quantities.
  • Common: Blaze powder, Honeycomb, Magma Cream, Leather/Rabbit Hide, Prismarine Crystals, Breeze Rods, and Spider Eyes
  • Plentiful: Bones and Bone Meal, Slime and Honey, String, Feathers, Gunpowder, Wool, Prismarine Shards, and Ink
  • Most drops not listed are Uncommon, since there are usually better ways to get them.

There are three different "brackets" of rarity within each tier, chosen based on position in evolutionary line and spawn rarity. This helps keep things consistent and easy to remember.

  • Rare: 1, 2, or 3% drop chance
  • Uncommon: 0-1, 0-2, or 0-3 drops
  • Common: 0-2, 2-5, or 5-10 drops
  • Plentiful: 2-5, 5-10, or 10-16 drops

Food Drops:

These use a different system, because it wouldn't make sense for a physically small pokemon to drop a lot of food. First, the type of food the Pokémon drops is decided. Theres some method to it, but generally it boils down to:

  • If it looks like an animal, looks like it would drop meat (not a plant or rock), and eating its meat wouldn't raise ethical concerns (cannibalism), it drops meat.
  • If it looks like a plant, it probably drops crops as food.
  • If it looks like a fish, it probably drops some variant of fish as food.
  • If it has wings and isn't a bug, it's a chicken. Yes, Charizard is a chicken, fight me.
  • If none of these are good fits, it just doesn't drop any food.

Then, for meat, the kind of meat is decided based on the average weight of the evolutionary line, making sure it stays consistent.

  • Light-weight Pokémon drop Rabbit
  • Medium-weight Pokémon drop Pork
  • Heavy-weight Pokémon drop Mutton
  • Really heavy Pokémon drop Beef
  • There are special cases for some Pokémon (e.g. Azumarill drops rabbit, Wooloo drops mutton, Miltank drops beef etc.)

Then, the weight of the Pokémon is used to determine how much food to drop, using values from the brackets above. For plants, the amount of hunger restored is also taken into account because 5 carrots restores a lot more hunger than 5 beetroot.

Certain Pokémon known for being large/fat (Wailord, Snorlax, and Greedent) are special cases and are in the 10-16 bracket, ignoring their weight.

*There are special cases for just about everything. Pretty much no rule here universally holds true, even if I didn't list the special cases.

Anybody needing it has my permission to do literally anything with this datapack. Although I would prefer to be credited somehow, it is not required.

AI USAGE TRANSPARENCY:

This datapack was made entirely using Claude Sonnet 5, but was reviewed for multiple hours by humans. All of the functional concepts were created by humans, such as the "tier and bracket" system and which items belong in which tier, and picking which species gets each music disc.

I wouldn't trust any AI enough to publish a vibe-coded mod, but loot tables are basically just config files that are repetitive, formatted, and hard to screw up. Also, nobody has the time to manually create over 1000 unique loot tables.
