Better Recipe & Smelts is a quality-of-life datapack designed to expand and rebalance Minecraft’s crafting and smelting systems in a way that feels logical, intuitive, and faithful to vanilla gameplay. Instead of introducing overpowered mechanics, this datapack focuses on improving efficiency and common-sense recipes that many players feel should have existed from the beginning. It is made to seamlessly integrate into survival worlds, modpacks, and long-term playthroughs without breaking progression or immersion.

The datapack enhances crafting logic by reducing unnecessary waste and improving block conversion. Core materials are treated consistently, allowing players to recover or convert blocks in more reasonable ways. This makes building, survival, and automation smoother while still respecting resource value and balance.

Smelting and furnace logic are also expanded to make better use of existing items. Items that feel naturally convertible through heat or processing now have practical outcomes, encouraging exploration, scavenging, and alternative progression paths. These changes help early-game survival, improve late-game efficiency, and reduce frustration caused by unused or “junk” items.

Better Recipe & Smelts is designed to work as a standalone datapack or as an additional datapack for modpacks. It is especially suitable for survival-focused, hardcore, apocalypse, or vanilla-plus experiences where gameplay depth matters more than flashy features.
