Backrooms Datapack

An infinite Backrooms labyrinth for Minecraft 1.21.1. Explore randomly generated rooms and corridors that expand as you walk, with a continuous fluorescent hum for an eerie atmosphere.

Backrooms Infinite Labyrinth

Backrooms Infinite Labyrinth is a Minecraft Java Edition datapack that turns a Superflat world into an endless, randomly generated Backrooms-style labyrinth.

Explore an ever-expanding maze of yellow rooms, connected corridors, and randomly generated room layouts. New rooms are generated automatically as you explore, creating an effectively infinite labyrinth.

Features

- ♾️ Infinite procedural generation — new rooms are generated as you explore.
- 🟨 Backrooms-style environment — yellow walls, carpet-like yellow floors, smooth quartz ceilings, and fluorescent lighting.
- πŸšͺ Connected rooms — rooms can connect through openings on all four sides.
- 🎲 Random room layouts — different room configurations are selected during generation.
- πŸ’‘ Fluorescent atmosphere — includes a continuous fluorescent light hum for a more immersive Backrooms atmosphere.
- πŸŒ‘ Superflat compatible — designed to work in a Superflat world.
- πŸ‘Ύ Mob-free exploration — natural mob spawning can be disabled for a completely empty and unsettling environment.

Installation

This datapack is designed for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1.

1. Create a new world

Create a Superflat world.

The datapack is designed around the following vertical layout:

- Floor: Y = -60
- Room interior: Y = -59 to -56
- Ceiling: Y = -55

2. Install the datapack

Place the datapack ".zip" file into:

"YourWorld/datapacks"

Do not extract the ZIP if it is already packaged as a datapack.

3. Install the resource pack

Place the Backrooms resource pack ".zip" into:

"%appdata%/.minecraft/resourcepacks"

Then enable it in Options → Resource Packs.

The resource pack is required for the custom fluorescent hum.

4. Start the world

Enter the world and let the datapack load.

If necessary, completely restart the world/game after installing the datapack. The datapack does not require "/reload".

5. Start the Backrooms

Run:

"/function backrooms:start"

The initial room will be generated around your current X/Z position.

Then simply walk around and explore.

As you move away from generated areas, additional rooms will automatically be created.

Optional: Disable Mob Spawning

For a completely empty Backrooms experience, run:

"/gamerule doMobSpawning false"

This does not interfere with room generation. The labyrinth is generated by datapack functions and markers, not by mob spawning.

Recommended Settings

For the intended atmosphere:

- Difficulty: Any
- Mob spawning: Off
- Music: Off
- Ambient sounds: On
- Particles: On
- Render distance: As high as your PC can comfortably handle

Important

Make sure you are using the correct version of the datapack and resource pack for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1.

The datapack and resource pack are separate. Both are required for the full experience, especially the custom fluorescent hum.

If you install a different version, remove the previous version first to avoid conflicting datapack/resource-pack files.
