# Free Cam
Leave your body behind and fly your camera around the world. Type /fc and your camera floats free while your character stays where it was. Type /fc again, or wait for the timer, and you snap back. Made for servers. Works for Java players, and for Bedrock players through Geyser.
Server-side plugin. Players do not need to install anything. No resource pack or ProtocolLib needed.
## Supported platforms
One jar for all three:
- Paper
- Spigot
- Purpur
Needs Minecraft 1.21.9 or newer (API 1.21.9+) and Java 21 or newer. Tested on 1.21.11 on Paper, Spigot and Purpur.
Bedrock players need Geyser-Spigot on the server. Floodgate and SkinsRestorer are optional.
## How it works
1. Run /fc. The camera leaves your body and moves like spectator view.
2. Your body stays behind as a stand-in. Other players see your character standing there with your armor and held items. The real player is hidden from them.
3. Run /fc again, or let the timer run out. You return to your body, and your inventory and game mode are restored.
The camera cannot be locked onto horses or other entities (the spectator-target trick is blocked).
## Commands
- /fc - toggle free cam on or off. Everyone can use it by default.
- /fc reload - reload the config. Needs tcfreecam.admin (OP by default).
- /fc debug - shows diagnostics for yourself. No admin permission needed.
## Permissions
- No permission is needed to use /fc by default.
- tcfreecam.admin - admin permission. Default: OP. It allows /fc reload. If all-members is false, only OPs and players with this node can use /fc.
## Configuration (plugins/TCFreeCam/config.yml)
- enabled (default: true) - master switch. false turns free cam off.
- all-members (default: true) - true: every member can use /fc. false: only OPs and players with tcfreecam.admin.
- duration-seconds (default: 45, allowed 1 to 3600) - how long free cam lasts before it ends automatically.
- cooldown-seconds (default: 30, allowed 0 to 86400) - how long a player must wait before using /fc again. 0 means no cooldown.
- max-distance-blocks (default: 0) - how far the camera can go from your body. 0 means unlimited. A positive number (up to 30,000,000) sends you back to your body when you reach that limit.
- load-camera-chunks (default: true) - loads a bounded area around the camera as it moves, so you can see where you are flying. On Paper and Purpur this runs async. On Spigot it falls back to a bounded synchronous load, which is slower. Fast travel can outrun loading, and long flights into new areas can grow world size.
- toggle-messages (default: true) - shows exactly "FreeCam enabled" or "FreeCam disabled" when you toggle or time runs out. false turns that chat line off. The boss bar stays.
Your existing config.yml is kept when you update.
## Known limits
- The stand-in body is a damageable mannequin, not a real player. Hostile mobs may ignore it. Test it before you enable it on a competitive survival server.
- It is not undetectable.
- The client may still show arm swing and the inventory screen.
- Java F5 (camera perspective) cannot be locked.
- On Spigot the chunk loading fallback is slower.
- Bedrock through Geyser was not tested on a phone with Spigot or Purpur.
## Install
1. Download the jar and put it in your server's plugins folder, replacing any older version.
2. Restart the server. Keep your existing config.yml.
3. Run /fc in game.
