Description
HorseInABoat
HorseInABoat is a lightweight Minecraft quality-of-life plugin that lets horses and other horse-type mobs ride in boats.
It makes travelling across rivers, lakes, and oceans easier without changing the core feel of vanilla Minecraft.
Features
HorseInABoat supports:
- Horses
- Donkeys
- Mules
- Skeleton Horses
- Zombie Horses
Supported mobs can enter normal boats and ride alongside the player.
HorseInABoat keeps the behaviour simple and close to vanilla:
- A horse uses one passenger seat
- A player can use the remaining seat
- Boats can still be controlled normally
- Saddles, armour, names, ownership, health, and other horse data are preserved
- Donkey and mule inventories are preserved
- Tamed and untamed horses work
- Horses dismount safely when the boat is broken
- No custom items or recipes are added
- No commands are needed for normal use
Shared Boat Interaction
Because of the size of horse entities, Minecraft's targeting behaviour causes problems when a horse and player share the same boat.
To keep the behaviour reliable, players cannot break or interact with nearby blocks while sharing a boat with a supported horse-type mob.
Normal boat movement and passenger behaviour still work as expected.
Server Support
The plugin is built against the Spigot API and is intended to support:
- CraftBukkit
- Spigot
- Paper
- Purpur
Vanilla clients do not need to install anything.
Check each release for the exact Minecraft versions supported.
Installation

pluginsfolder. - Restart the server.

Project Goal
HorseInABoat solves one small Minecraft problem: moving horses across water.
It keeps the change focused and close to vanilla without adding new transport systems or changing how horses work outside boats.
