DeathGearRestoreClient

Remembers your inventory, armor, and offhand layout before you die, then automatically restores it to the exact same slots as you pick your dropped gear back up.

Death Gear Restore

Die, drop everything, and watch your items scatter across the ground in a completely different order than you had them? Death Gear Restore fixes that. It quietly remembers exactly where every item was — every armor piece, your offhand, every inventory slot — right before you died, and puts each item back where it belongs the moment you pick it back up.

No more re-sorting your hotbar or re-equipping your armor piece by piece after every death.

Features

  • Full layout memory — captures your entire inventory, armor slots, and offhand right up until the moment you die.
  • Restores as you go — you don't need to gather every dropped item at once. Pick up one item, and it snaps straight back to its original slot; pick up the rest later and they'll do the same.
  • Armor re-equips itself — walk over your dropped helmet, chestplate, leggings, or boots and they return straight to their armor slot, not just your general inventory.
  • Offhand included — shields, totems, and anything else you were holding off-hand goes right back where it was.
  • 100% client-side — nothing to install on the server. It only rearranges your own inventory using the same slot actions vanilla already sends when you drag items around, so it works on unmodified vanilla and modded servers alike.
  • Stays out of the way — it won't touch your inventory while you have a chest, crafting table, or any other container open.

How it works

Every tick while you're alive, the mod keeps a lightweight snapshot of your full equipment layout. The instant you die, that last snapshot is locked in as your "restore target." From then on, whenever an item you pick up matches something from that snapshot, the mod moves it into its original slot for you — one tidy swap at a time, indistinguishable from doing it by hand.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 26.2
  • Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer
  • Fabric API 0.156.0+26.2 or newer
  • Java 25 or newer

Installation

  1. Install //fabricmc.net/use/" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">https://fabricmc.net/use/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Fabric Loader for Minecraft 26.2.
  2. Download Fabric API for 26.2 and place it in your mods folder.
  3. Drop deathgearrestore-<version>.jar into the same mods folder.
  4. Launch the game — that's it, no configuration needed.

Notes

  • Because restoration works item-by-item, if you die again before finishing a previous recovery, the newer death's layout takes priority.
  • If two identical items get merged into one stack while lying on the ground, the mod restores the item type correctly but can't guarantee the exact original stack counts per slot.
  • Enabling keepInventory makes this mod a no-op — your gear never left its slots in the first place.
