I've dropped Spout support and the in-game recipe editor/creator for now in favour of getting the recipe loading to work as desired. There's now a setting to choose the startup behaviour; it's the "startup" key in the config, and the valid values are "compound" (don't do anything), "reset" (reset to vanilla recipes), or "clear" (delete all recipes).
