A major Vanilla RTX revision is here to accommodate for changes in 1.21.80 release of Minecraft, along with atmospheric overhaul for a variety of biomes!
Vanilla RTX 1.21.120 / Release Notes:
• Atmospheric Overhaul for the following biomes:
- Taiga, Taiga Hills, Taiga Mutated, Mega Taiga, Mega Taiga Hills, Redwood Taiga, Redwood Taiga Hills, Plains, Sunflower Plains, River (non-cold), Forest, Flower Forest, Wooded Hills
- Pale Garden & Cherry Grove fogs have also been readjusted.
Below is a short breakdown of how this affects these biomes, similar can be expected for future atmospheric overhauls.
Atmosphere tends to be dimmer in dense forests, rain now tends to darken the atmosphere more significantly in non-plain/wooded biomes. In contrast, the sun will be brightest in plain or non-hilly biomes.
Cloud intensity now varies by biome. Biomes you'd expect clearer clouds now appear that way, and those that should have thicker clouds now look heavier and denser, while remaining just hollow enough to avoid being tinted by terrain light bounces.
Water's surface color, as well as color from the inside now closely match their vanilla game colors.
Underwater visibility is more restricted, similar to vanilla game. You can no longer see across the ocean in the absence of direct sunlight. And the deeper you go, the darker it gets—water now properly absorbs light as you descend. Like with water, air and atmospheric color now vary per biome to match each one’s intended theme.
This creates a unique, almost surreal sense of place—biomes now feel distinct instead of just being terrain and grass color transitions.
To top it off, all of it comes together with smooth, non-jarring transitions.
• Minecraft 1.21.80.27 fixed PBR textures on candles. Candles are now fully revamped with better lighting and a new waxy material.
Due to the lack of hardcoded point lights, candles are still somewhat dysfunctional—this is addressed in the Enhanced option.
• Adjusted Ender Eye appearance—now subtly glows in the dark. (This reflects its intended design as seen in Vibrant Visuals)
• Improved sea pickle's appearance
• Revamped turtle egg's appearance
• Improved torchflower heightmaps
• Flattened Flower Pots (Note: this block has strange overlapping UVs—normals or heightmaps are best avoided entirely)
▣ Enhanced (Option) Changelogs:
• Reverted Spyglass texture to the workaround seen in 1.21.10
• Added Enhancement for Candles:
Now more viable as a light source with a fading glow effect on the wax towards the bottom.
Lit candles' wick now glows a bright yellow color instead of black.
• Removed Dried Kelp Block workaround—no longer needed in 1.21.80.27+
• Moved Chiseled Bookshelf workaround to a dedicated folder—for tidiness, no impact.
