What's new

# YogMagica 0.1.3

### Everything changed since 0.1.0

Three releases in quick succession, all triggered by one player's bug report.
If you are on 0.1.0, this is a required update: that build could not be played
past the Arcane Altar.

Huge thanks to **malkex**, who reported the progression lock and the broken
structure blocks on the CurseForge comments. Auditing the rest of the project
on the back of that report is what turned up everything else here.

---

## The big one: 0.1.0 was unplayable, and now it isn't

**The Theorist's Bench had no recipe.** It also had no loot table entry and did
not generate in any structure, which means it could not be obtained in survival
at all. Since the Bench is the only research station, and your first wand is
locked behind research, a survival player could craft the Arcane Altar and the
Sage's Codex and then had nowhere to go. Hunting through structures for one was
never going to work, because there were none to find.

The Bench is now craftable at the Arcane Altar from the very start, right
alongside the Codex: **crafting table + book + 3 aetherite dust**.

Existing worlds are completely fine. Just walk up to your Altar and craft it.

## New: affinity passive tiers

Affinity used to do exactly two things: discount that aspect's vis cost, and
show you a number in the codex. The manual had described a whole second tier of
permanent traits since launch, but none of it was actually built. It is now.

Reach **50% affinity** in an aspect and you permanently unlock its tier. Both
traits arrive together.

Aspect Tier What you get
**Pyre** Emberheart Immune to fire and lava damage, and lava no longer slows you
**Tide** Deepcalm Breathe underwater indefinitely, and water freezes to ice underfoot
**Gale** Windborne Permanent Speed I, and fall damage is negated entirely
**Loam** Stonebound Permanent Haste I and Resistance I
**Weave** Ordered Mind Spells cost 15% less mana, and magic damage taken is cut 20%
**Hollow** Voidtouched Immune to Blindness, and you blink 3 blocks clear when struck

Because gaining affinity bleeds the opposite aspect by half the gain, holding
two opposed tiers at once is possible but very hard to sustain. That tension is
deliberate. Specialising is supposed to cost you something.

## Fixed

**Structures were full of broken blocks.** Wall torches were being written with
a block name that only exists in Java Edition, so on Bedrock they rendered as
the purple and black "missing" placeholder. That hit 28 of the 144 structure
templates. All affected structures have been rebuilt with proper Bedrock wall
torches.

**Every custom block was silent.** All 49 YogMagica blocks had no sound group
assigned, so none of them made any noise when broken, placed, or walked on.
Crystal clusters now chime like amethyst, conduits and valves ring like copper,
Hollow blocks sound like deepslate, Nitor flickers like a candle, and the
Wellspring Lens is glass.

**Dungeon loot was too thin.** Chests rolled few enough items that they often
collapsed into one or two stacks of vanilla junk. Roll counts are up (common
chests 4 to 7, treasure chests 5 to 8), and every chest now guarantees at least
one magical item, with treasure chests guaranteeing two. A chest in a magic
add-on should never be all coal and arrows.

**The tutorial taught the wrong path.** The Apprentice's Primer claimed you
could craft a wand at the Arcane Altar (it is a research reward, not a starting
recipe) and that research happened in the Sage's Codex (it happens at the
Theorist's Bench). Both are corrected, and the Primer now walks the real opening
sequence in order.

**The manual was wrong about a lot.** A full audit of The Grand Grimoire against
the actual code found 123 discrepancies:

* Roughly 40% of the documented spell economy was wrong: 44 incorrect vis costs,
38 incorrect mana costs, and 27 incorrect burnout values. If you were budgeting
casts off the wiki, you were working from numbers that were never real.
* 13 spells that exist and work were documented nowhere: teleport, flight,
shield, regeneration, ignite, slow fall, rebound, hunger, corrode, fling,
gale jet, water breathing, and night vision.
* Webwidow is 250 HP, not the documented 400. Bastion Sentinel is 200 HP, not 600.
* There is a 7th Arcane Seal combo (Sculk Seal, Hollow + Weave) that shipped
  without ever being written down.
* Astral Netherite: tools reach 2200 durability, but armor runs 520 to 740. The
manual claimed the whole set exceeded 2200.

All of it is corrected, and the spell tables are now generated directly from the
game's own data, so they cannot drift out of sync again.

## Behind the scenes

The reason 0.1.0 shipped unplayable is worth saying plainly: it passed 94 of 95
automated tests. Every one of those tests was correct, and every one of them
checked a system in isolation. Nothing checked whether a new player could
actually reach any of it.

That gap is closed now. There is a required test that starts from an empty
inventory and walks the whole opening chain, and it fails the build if any
research station is ever locked behind research again. There are also new checks
that verify every block in every structure actually exists on Bedrock, that every
custom block has a sound, and that anything the manual promises is genuinely
implemented in code.

The suite is now 98 scenarios.

## Upgrading

Open the new `.mcaddon` and it will replace your existing packs. Existing worlds
carry over without issue.

If you were stuck in 0.1.0, craft the Theorist's Bench at your Arcane Altar and
carry on from there. Nothing you built is lost.

Playtesters are credited in game, on the Credits page of the Apprentice's Primer.
Bug reports are genuinely welcome. This entire update came from one.
