Description
True Darkness
Minecraft nights got boring once you had one torch at your base — darkness just stopped mattering. This addon brings it back.
At night or in a real cave, things go actually dark. Not vanilla's blue tint where you can still see fine — proper darkness where you need a light source or you're stuck. Caves feel like caves again, and going out at night without a torch is a real risk.
The cave detection checks how thick the ceiling above you actually is, so a house roof or some leaves won't trigger it — only real cave rock does. Outside of that it just follows the normal day/night cycle. There's also a light, cold haze in the air during the day for atmosphere — nothing crazy, just makes things feel a bit more overcast and gloomy even when it's not dark out.
You spawn with a Hand Flashlight the first time you load the world. Right-click to turn it on or off, works in your off-hand too if you want to keep a tool or weapon in your main hand, and it's a real light source, not a screen filter — it actually lights up the ground and blocks around you as you walk and pushes the darkness fog back so you can see. It also won't be lost if you die, it stays with you no matter what.
All of the darkness, fog and lighting stuff runs off scripting, which is why the pack needs experimental features turned on to work. Because of that, achievements get disabled for the world — that's a Minecraft limitation with behavior packs that use scripting, not something I can turn off from my end. Just wanted to be upfront about that before you install it.
This addon uses fog to create the darkness effect, and does not change the lighting system of MCBE renderer engine, as that is impossible. The original Java mod changes the Java lighting system, but since the Bedrock renderer can't be changed, I had to use Fog.
