What's new

Trial Grounds 2.0

The biggest update yet: a new map, perks, an AI Killer that uses its Killer's power, an end game with a collapse and a hatch, player stats, and new looks for every Killer.

New map: Veronika Fair

An abandoned fairground built around Vulpine, and the third map in Our Maps.

  • Walk in under a carnival arch with VERONIKA FAIR in lights and Vulpine's face on both sides
  • A giant Vulpine statue stands in the plaza, hook raised and name tag on
  • The big top, Vulpine's Cove (a theatre with a curtained stage), a Ferris wheel, a carousel, a swing ride, bumper cars, game booths, a high striker, a fortune teller's tent and food stands
  • 96×96 · 4 of 6 generators · 7 hooks · 13 pallets

Blackpit Mine

Coal Tower is now Blackpit Mine, rebuilt from top to bottom:

  • Gravel paths, a warehouse with a brick upper storey and a caved-in roof, a winding wheel on the tower, a rusty tank, a timber shed, spruce woods, coal seams and two old mine tunnels
  • A new pallet loop in the open ground between the warehouse, the tank and the shack (11 pallets now), plus fallen logs and woodpiles for cover

Grizzly and Vulpine

The last two Killers get their new models, so all six now share the same style:

  • Grizzly: a withered animatronic bear with the suit torn open to the metal skeleton, red eyes, a jaw full of teeth, his top hat and a vintage mic
  • Vulpine: rust-red fur torn open to the endoskeleton, an eyepatch, one burning amber eye, a steel hook for a hand, and the VERONIKA name tag

Perks

Every player picks one perk for each side: open the Trial Guide and tap Perks.

  • Grease Monkey (Survivor): repair generators 25% faster
  • Cut and Run (Survivor): when the Killer hits you, sprint off with a burst of speed for 3 seconds (once a minute)
  • Slip the Hook (Survivor): once per trial, hold sneak on a hook for 6 seconds to pull yourself free
  • Short Circuit (Killer): every Survivor you hook knocks 15% off the generator closest to done
  • Splinter (Killer): break pallets in half the time, and shake off pallet stuns a second sooner
  • Hush (Killer): Survivors only hear your heartbeat from 16 blocks away instead of 32

The AI Killer

  • Pick Easy, Normal or Hard when you set up a trial against it
  • Its hits work like a player Killer's: the first injures you, the second downs you. It carries you to a hook, and you can struggle free with A/D
  • Walls hide you from it. It hears generators, gates and failed skill checks, and comes to look
  • Pallets stun it, and you hear its heartbeat when it gets close
  • It uses its Killer's power: the Spectrum Blinks at you, Grizzly sings, Vulpine pounces, Strix swoops in with no heartbeat, Corvid's crows find you, and the Butcher follows the blood through walls

The end game

  • The collapse: once the gates have power, survivors have 2 minutes to get out. The clock slows while someone is hooked, downed or carried
  • The hatch: when one survivor is left, a hatch opens somewhere on the grounds. Hold sneak on it to escape. The Killer can slam it shut

Also new

  • Head start: the Killer is held for 12 seconds while the survivors scatter
  • Player stats: results after every trial, and your record under My Stats in the Trial Guide
  • Patch yourself up: with nobody left to heal you, hold sneak away from generators
  • Hooks light up for the Killer while they carry someone, and the HUD points to the nearest free one
  • One set of rules for everyone: during a trial everyone plays in Survival and gets their own game mode back afterwards. There's no real damage or hunger, and the grounds can't be broken or built on

Fixes

  • Sacrificed players were left in Spectator mode after the trial
  • Killer hits did real damage and could kill a survivor outright, the AI Killer's included
  • The AI Killer floated away when you hit it
  • Grizzly's song barely slowed anyone down
  • A pallet pulled up on the Killer in the gap trapped them inside it
  • Setting up another trial on the same map sank generator lamps and hooks into the ground
  • Generator lamps could stand inside the arena fence
  • Blackpit Mine's iron bars and fences stood as loose posts
  • Exit gates could sink into dirt paths
