# The Backrooms (Demo)
# discord here
welcome to the backrooms. yellow wallpaper, damp-looking carpet, fluorescent lights... and a lot of rooms that probably shouldn't be here.
This is an early Minecraft Bedrock add-on demo by Critical Pixle, focused on Level 0. The project is still growing, and this demo gives you the first area to explore while more levels are being made.
## What's in the demo?
- 21 different room types, each with four rotations. Explore camps, a library, a gallery, dining areas, stairs, overgrown spaces, strange corridors and a taller mega room.
- Equal chances for every room. Each tile picks its room independently. Rooms aren't arranged to make matching neighbors or a neat route, so you can run into walls and dead ends.
- A separate Backrooms dimension. Rooms generate around players and distant rooms are cleared, with multiplayer players keeping their own surrounding areas active.
- Courupted grass. Strange black-and-magenta grass can appear on exposed Overworld grass. Touch it to enter Level 0. That checkerboard look is intentional.
- Bacteria, hounds and wanderers. Scripted spawn attempts bring encounters into Level 0, with wanderers more likely in and around camps. Other custom entity content includes wretches and smilers; not every entity has automatic ambient spawning.
- Persistent custom mobs. Ordinary chunk unloading doesn't intentionally erase them. Room cleanup removes occupants when their current room is cleared; normal death still applies.
- **Custom room details and atmosphere**, including wallpaper, carpet, ceiling lights, saved furnishings, paintings and Level 0 fog.
## In-game previews
These are real screenshots taken on the creator's computer during development, not rendered mockups. They show the visual style; the release includes later room and gameplay fixes.
Level 0 exploration yellow patterned walls, fluorescent ceiling panels, carpeted passages and a larger room opening into surrounding areas.
## How to play
1. Import the `.mcaddon` into Minecraft Bedrock and activate both its behavior and resource packs on your world.
2. Use a Bedrock build that meets the pack's 1.26.40 minimum engine target, supports custom dimensions and the required experimental scripting APIs. Enable Beta APIs, then reopen the world.
3. Find and touch corrupted grass, or use `/bridge:enter` to enter directly.
4. Use `/bridge:leave` to return to your saved entry position. `/bridge:status` shows generation information.
This demo uses experimental APIs, so compatibility depends on your Minecraft build. It is a Bedrock add-on, and requires both packs.
## Demo notes
Room selection is fully random and does not guarantee an open route through every boundary. Distant rooms are disposable: when cleared, they lose edits, storage contents and entities. Returning regenerates the room, so don't use the Backrooms as permanent storage.
The demo has source checks and automated generator tests. Those checks don't replace playtesting on every device. Please report issues with your Minecraft version and what happened.
## What's next?
We're planning five more levels after Level 0, followed by more areas and expansions beyond those. The goal is to give the Backrooms more places to explore, more room variety and more encounters as development continues.
Those five levels are planned content, not included in this demo. Level names, release order and dates aren't locked in yet. This is the beginning, and there's more to come.
