The sun burns from the first day. There is no 3-day grace period.

It only burns during the day. It stops at night.

Anything with a block above it does not burn.

Anything in water does not burn.

Fire Resistance protects you.

Creative and Spectator players take no damage.

 

A player who joins the world for the first time gets 30 minutes of Fire Resistance, once.

When that time ends, the sun burns them normally. It is not given again.

 

Phases

Every phase lasts 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 days.

The final phase opens on day 475 and does not change after that.

The heat ramp is spread across 475 days

- From the start: exposed living things burn

- Leaves wither

- Crops, flowers, snow, and ice disappear

- The surface catches fire and wood ignites

- Distant meteors fall

- Water starts to vanish

- Grass turns to dirt

- Dirt becomes sand, gravel, coarse dirt, or air

- Stone becomes cobblestone, deepslate becomes cobbled deepslate

- Lava geysers rise 1-15 blocks

- Day 475+: full apocalypse, exposed items burn, meteor power 1-10

 

Meteors never land where a player is standing. They fall at least 18 blocks away.

Explosions and lightning cannot kill the player.

 

Nether portals

Every opened Nether portal acts like a final-phase sun in an 8x8 area, day and night.

In the Nether, fire, lava, and meteors are more frequent around portals.

Portal blocks and obsidian are not broken.

Portal meteors also stay away from players.
