Minecraft already has a pig. It exists to become pork, and riding it with a carrot on a stick barely steers. This gives the pig a job.
A nose that finds things. Put a pig in Snuffle mode and it senses ore through the stone around it, then tells you what it smells, which way it lies and how far off it is. A compass direction and a distance — not exact coordinates. It tells you where to dig and leaves the digging to you.
Truffles. In Snuffle mode a pig roots truffles out of grass, dirt, podzol, mycelium, moss and mud. You see the truffle in its snout for a moment before it drops, so you can tell where it came from. Truffles are food, and they are also the best breeding feed.
Riding that works. A saddle makes a pig steer the way a horse steers, with no carrot on a stick involved. A chest adds saddlebags.
Five breeds that differ in what they can DO. Soot the Berkshire smells ore twelve blocks away; Blossom the Large White only five, but she carries the most and takes the most punishment; Ember the Tamworth is the one you ride. You pick a pig for the job, not for the colour.
Also: commands (Follow / Snuffle / Stay) with a stick, taming with carrots, piglets that are born yours and grow up, and English and Swedish throughout.
