Description
Skill Journal
Every tool gets better the more you use it.
Skill Journal adds an RPG-style skill system to Minecraft Bedrock. Each of the 12 tools has its own level from 0 to 100. Mine with a pickaxe to level Pickaxe, fish to level Fishing, joust with a spear to level Spear. Every few levels you earn skill points to spend on perks, and every tool unlocks an ability, a specialization and a mastery.
It's an enhancement, not a game mode. Your world plays like normal Minecraft, and you get a little better at whatever you do most.
⚠️ Beta: Skill Journal is in beta. Please report bugs or balance issues in the comments.
✨ Features
- 12 tool skills: Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel, Hoe, Brush, Shears, Fishing Rod, Sword, Spear, Bow & Crossbow, Trident and Mace
- 120+ perks across 12 perk trees, some with ranks and some that need another perk first
- 12 abilities. Double-tap sneak while holding the tool:
- Super Breaker: Haste V and double drops
- Tree Feller: fells the whole tree
- Cavalry Charge: speed for you and your mount, and every hit counts as a charge
- …and 9 more
- Specializations at level 50: choose one of two permanent paths for each tool, like Miner or Delver, Lancer or Pikeman
- Masteries at level 100: a capstone bonus for each tool
- 23 milestones: bonus XP for firsts, like your first diamond, your first 50-block bow shot or your first sniffer egg
- Titles: your total level earns a title shown above your head, from Novice to Legend
- Leaderboard in the journal, plus an optional sidebar leaderboard
- Custom skill icons, level-up effects and an ability-ready chime
📖 How it works
- You get a Skill Journal the first time you join. Lost it? Craft a new one from a book + stick.
- Use a tool to level its skill. The wrong tool earns nothing.
- Every 5 levels = 1 skill point for that tool's perk tree.
- Level 10: your tool's ability unlocks. Double-tap sneak while holding it.
- Level 50: choose a permanent specialization.
- Level 100: you've mastered the tool.
Progress is slow on purpose. Level 100 in a skill is a real achievement, and with only 20 points per tool you can't buy every perk, so every player ends up with a different build.

⚙️ No commands or cheats needed
Everything works from the Skill Journal, with no experiments and no cheats.
- Settings (everyone): show or hide your title
- Server settings (operators only):
- turn the optional death penalty and tool gating on or off
- change the XP rate (0.25× to 5×)
- pick a sidebar leaderboard
- manage players: refund perks, set levels, clear cooldowns or reset progress
Optional commands (/sk:menu, /sk:stats, /sk:top, /sk:setlevel and more) are there for anyone who prefers them. They work with cheats off too.
Optional rules (off by default)
- Death penalty: dying loses 25% of your progress toward each next level. Levels are never lost.
- Tool gating: better tools need higher skill levels. Iron needs 15, diamond 30, netherite 60.
🛡️ Built for survival servers
Skill Journal blocks the usual ways to farm XP:
- Blocks you place give no XP, even after a piston moves them or sand or gravel falls
- Cobblestone, basalt and obsidian generators give no XP
- Mob farms, breeding farms and AFK fishing spots pay much less over time
- A mob you keep healing can't give more XP than killing it would
- Silk Touch never gets bonus drops, and items you drop yourself are never duplicated
- Tree Feller only fells natural trees, so houses and villages are safe
- Creative mode and PvP give no skill XP
📦 Installation

Requires: Minecraft Bedrock 26.50 or newer. Works on PC, console, mobile and Realms or servers. Experiments: none.
💡 Skill data is saved in the world. Try it on a copy of your world first.
