Description
SCP-513 — Cursed Bell
A slow-burn survival horror encounter inspired by the SCP Foundation's SCP-513 ("The Bell"). Ring the Cursed Bell once and you've started a curse that escalates for as long as you let it — from a shape watching you at the treeline, to something that will not stop hunting you.
This isn't a mob you /summon and fight. It's a scripted, per-player curse that runs quietly in the background of survival and gets worse the longer you ignore it.
How it works
Find (or craft-in, via /give) the Cursed Bell, then use it. That's the only trigger — until you ring it, nothing happens at all, no tracking, no spawns. The moment you ring it, your personal "days cursed" counter starts ticking up once per in-game morning, and the curse moves through four escalating phases:
Phase 1 — Paranoia (Day 0–3): A pale figure appears at a distance once each night, just watching. It can't hurt you. Stare back at it long enough and it slows you with dread before vanishing into thin air with a soft chime.
Phase 2 — Sleep Deprivation (Day 4–8): It appears more often, closer, and starts closing the distance on you. Sleeping in a bed is no longer possible — "You feel like you are being watched..." Nearby proximity causes nausea. Occasional fake bell chimes and screen flashes keep you on edge.
Phase 3 — Hallucination (Day 9–14): It's constantly nearby now, spawning in whatever dark corner you're standing in, applying weakness, and charging you — only to vanish in a flash of blindness a moment before contact. The bell never really stops ringing in this phase.
Phase 4 — Terminal (Day 15+): The curse stops pretending. It hunts you at range, actually attacks, permanently saps your mining speed and movement while it's active nearby, and periodically plunges you into Darkness. Kill it and it comes back for you again in 10 seconds.
Every distance, timing, and probability value driving this is tunable in the script if you want to make your own curse harder, faster, or permanent.
Survival integration
The Cursed Bell now has a small chance to turn up in Simple Dungeon chests, so you can stumble into this curse through normal exploration instead of needing /give.
Ring the bell a second time later (even after being "cured") and it answers again — the curse isn't a one-shot.
A testing/roleplay hook is built in: /scoreboard players set <player> scp513_cured 1 lets you shut the curse off for a player at any time (handy if you want to build your own "cure" item or ritual on top of it).
