What's new

Salt & Ships v1.0.4

Installing and Updating

  • Updates were not installing over older versions. Every release so far carried the same internal version number, so Minecraft saw a new download as a pack you already had and refused it, or quietly kept the old one. If a fix from an earlier changelog never seemed to reach you, this is why. From this version on, updating works the way it should.
  • The download is now packaged the standard way, with both packs at the top level of the file. This fixes imports that were rejected on Android and by some file managers.
  • After importing, open your world, go to the Behavior Packs and Resource Packs lists, and make sure both Salt & Ships packs show the new version. Tap Update if the game offers it.
  • Playing on console: Xbox, PlayStation and Switch cannot import add-ons directly, but they can play this one. Someone on Windows, Android or iOS creates the world with both packs active and either uploads it to a Realm or hosts it, with "Require players to accept resource packs" switched on. Console players who join download the packs automatically.

Ships

  • The bow cannons could not be fired in v1.0.3, on any device. Looking straight ahead fired the broadside instead, and the bar at the bottom never showed BOW. The stern barrels had the same problem: looking aft never showed STERN and a click dropped nothing. Both are back. This was a mistake in v1.0.3 itself: earlier versions were not affected.
  • New: Scuttle Ship at the Shipwright's Table. If you lose your ship and cannot find it, you were stuck, because you can only own one. You can now break her up from the table and commission a new one. It works even when the ship is nowhere near you. A confirmation screen warns you first: everything stowed in her hold is lost, along with her upgrades, her name and her flag. Anyone aboard is put off unharmed. A Mariner's Compass still points the way back if you would rather go and find her.
  • The Pirate Ship item answered "Aim at open water" in the middle of the ocean and launched nothing. It now finds the water properly, and if you are looking at the horizon or the sky it launches the ship just ahead of you instead of refusing. The two warnings now mean different things: one says it cannot see water, the other says there is water but not enough room for a hull.
  • The Shipwright's Blueprint from Captain Chum now works just by bringing it to the Shipwright's Table. Nothing in the game said it had to be used in your hand first, so players were carrying it to the table and being told they still needed it. Open Upgrades with the blueprint anywhere in your inventory and tier 4 unlocks.
  • The Ship Kit now also responds to a tap on a block, which is how touch screens deliver the gesture.

Sailing with Friends

  • If a friend is standing on your deck when you set sail, you now get a message about it. Anyone who is not seated gets left behind once the ship moves: they take a seat by interacting with the ship. Strangers may board by default, so this was almost never a permissions problem, it just looked like one.
  • If someone tries to board and your ship turns them away, you are told, along with where to change it: the Shipwright's Table, under Who may board. Inviting a player to your crew at the Bosun's Table additionally lets them steer and fire.

Creatures

  • Pirates were too easy to cut down. Pirates and Corsairs go from 26 to 36 health, the equivalent of a player in full golden armour. The Pirate Captain goes from 30 to 50.

Settings

  • The Logbook's Settings page now has separate switches for Sand Motes and for Wind Gusts and Storm Fog, next to the existing ones for Shore Waves and Ship Wake. Turning wind off only hides it: it keeps pushing your sails either way. If you had the old combined switch off, both new ones start off.

World

  • Shore waves now run a third further up the beach, at the same speed.

Graphics

  • The add-on now works with Vibrant Visuals. The game used to switch that graphics mode off whenever the packs were active.

Languages

  • The add-on is now available in 28 more languages: every language Minecraft Bedrock supports. These are machine translations with the names of bosses, places and gear protected, so expect rough edges in the dialogue.
