What's new

Salt & Ships v1.0.3

Structures

  • Generated structures were arriving empty. The Barnacle Dreadnought was missing from its lair, the treasure cage was missing from the Pirate Hideout and the Masked Temple, the temple masks were not there, and the Seller's ship generated without the Seller aboard. All of them now show up where they belong.
  • The Masked Temple no longer carves a hole in the landscape around itself. It now settles into the terrain the way the Pirate Hideout already did, and sits a little deeper in the ground.
  • The Seller's ships now sit one block higher, so their decks clear the waterline.

The Masked Temple

  • Getting the puzzle wrong is no longer the end of the run. The treasure breaks on the spot and a countdown starts: you have between a minute and a half and two minutes, depending on the temple's difficulty, to get out before the whole place comes down. The bigger the temple, the more time you get, because the way out is longer.
  • A timer runs on your action bar during the escape, with warnings at one minute, thirty seconds and ten seconds.

Ships

  • 23 pieces of the ship model had been invisible for two weeks: the entire topsail, most of the damaged hull planking, panels on both crow's nests and several hull pieces. All of them are back, on your ship, the pirate ships and the Ghost Ship alike.
  • Buying an upgrade from the preview at the Shipwright's Table never worked. It always answered that the ship had changed while you were planning and charged nothing. It now takes your materials and plays the cutscene like it should.
  • Stepping off your ship no longer snaps it round with a jolt. The hull eases onto the nearest cardinal heading and holds it.
  • Nine new flag emblems from the texture artist replace the four placeholder ones.
  • Flag colour and strength are now chosen in a single form, and you confirm them while looking at the flag itself. The emblem is always painted, either in your crew's colour or in plain grey.

Bosses

  • Blackbeard was frozen solid. His animations had been pointing at an old version of his rig for eleven days, so he stood still through the entire fight. He now has the animator's full set and his combat has been tuned around it: his basic strikes, parry chains, unstoppable swing, energy rings and healing all read as separate moves.
  • Blackbeard also speaks now. He had thirty one lines written for his arrival and his death and none of them had ever been triggered.
  • Captain Chum has a new set of animations, and his laugh is now tied to the moment he surfaces instead of firing before he is out of the ground.
  • The Barnacle Dreadnought's laugh finally plays when it wakes up.
  • All three bosses showed "Unknown" on the boss bar instead of their name.
  • New combat effects for Blackbeard and the Dreadnought: steam venting from the Dreadnought's joints, spray off its hull, and energy trails on Blackbeard's attacks.

Creatures

  • Sharks never stop moving now. A shark breathes by swimming, and this one used to hang motionless in the water for up to six seconds at a time between destinations, and froze outright while sizing you up.
  • The Capuchin can be told to sit and to get up with a right click, the same way a wolf does, and it rides along seated when you take the helm.
  • The Capuchin can also steal from much further away, and it almost never stole before: its cooldown was being reset on every attempt, win or lose, so the wait stretched past eight minutes. Paying it off with fruit now buys you twice as long in peace.
  • Parrots no longer take fall damage landing on your deck. With six hearts, that was killing them.
  • A big pass over the Castaway's last stand. Rapid hits now bring the soldier to his knees instead of killing him outright, he no longer ends up lying on his side, and he walks properly after you pick him up.
  • Pirates now let go of a castaway they just spared instead of standing over him swinging. The reprieve also lasts the forty seconds it is supposed to; before, it never ran out.
  • A pirate who refuses to surrender now actually runs away.
  • Recruiting a surrendered pirate with an empty hand did nothing at all.
  • The Siren can finally lunge on land. Her jump was tuned for water and never got her off the ground.
  • The blowgun dart now points where it is flying instead of holding the angle it was born with.
  • Pirates standing on a deck no longer flash red from damage that never reaches them.

Economy

  • The Seller still was not restocking. The fix in the previous version never actually took effect, so his stock ran dry permanently all over again.
  • Sinking the Ghost Ship appeared to pay nothing. The gold was going straight into the Bosun's Table fund and none of it into your pockets, with no message saying so.
  • Sinking the Ghost Ship was taking seventeen broadsides instead of ten. Tier 4 incendiary shot was quietly falling back to the base damage of a normal round.

Items & Interface

  • Every item and block in the add-on now signs "Salt & Ships Add-On" in its tooltip.
  • 29 items and blocks were in the wrong creative tab. Cooked food, boats, skulls, saplings and raw food have all been moved to where the vanilla game keeps them.
  • The Hermit Crab Shell can now be placed as a beach decoration, and it turns up in beach treasure chests and aboard the Seller's ship.
  • Mahogany logs could only be built on top of while crouching.
