RR Dark Whispers - Shadow Quests

Today i am bringing you a very creepy and mysterious behavior pack for your survival worlds. Before we get into it i just want to be honest with you guys, i dont actually write the code manually for these addons. I use ai tools to generate the necessary scripts for my projects because i prefer focusing on the game design and the cool ideas.

And the idea for this addon is honestly one of my absolute favorites. Minecraft can feel a little too safe and predictable once you get good gear. I wanted to add a feeling of paranoia, like something is always watching you from the shadows. So i created the RR Dark Whispers addon. This pack makes it so the darkness itself will randomly start talking to you and demanding sacrifices.

​How The Whispers Work

When you are just playing survival normally, minding your own business, you might suddenly hear a creepy cave sound. A dark gray text will appear in your chat. This is the whisper. It will give you a specific task and you have exactly 5 minutes to complete it. If you succeed the shadows will reward you with rare items and coins. But the tasks are not always easy. They are divided into different tiers like Common, Rare and Legendary. Sometimes it asks for a Sacrifice where you have to hold specific items like 64 cobblestone or 5 enchanted books and right click to offer them to the darkness. Sometimes it gives you a Hunt task where you have to kill 20 zombies or even destroy the Wither to satisfy the voice.

​Location And Gamble Tasks

The really cool part is the location tasks. The whisper might demand that you go stand in complete darkness for 30 seconds without moving. Or it might tell you to climb all the way up to Y coordinate 250 to touch the sky. It forces you to drop whatever you are doing and rush to complete the objective before the 5 minute timer runs out. It will give you warnings when you have 2 minutes left or 30 seconds left and the sounds get scarier. I also added a Gamble task for the brave players. The whisper will ask you to risk your diamonds or even your equipped armor. If you win the gamble you get double the rewards and massive coins, but if the whisper laughs at you, you lose your items forever.

​The UI Menu And Stats

If you ever forget what your active whisper is you dont need to panic. You just hold a normal book in your hand and sneak. This opens the Dark Whispers UI menu. Here you can see your exact active task, the time remaining, and what items you need to complete it. You can also check your whisper stats from this menu. It tracks how many whispers you have completed, failed or corrupted. Yes there is a corruption system. There is a 5 percent chance that a whisper will be corrupted when you get it. A corrupted whisper is twisted, meaning if you fail it you actually get rewarded, but if you complete it you get a crazy penalty. It really messes with your head. As you complete more normal whispers you also rank up. You start as a Novice but if you complete 100 whispers you get the Dark Lord rank.

​Milestones And Easter Eggs

I love rewarding players who grind so i added milestone rewards. When you complete 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 whispers the game gives you a massive announcement on your screen. The shadows notice you and drop free bonus gifts in your inventory like diamonds, netherite scraps and enchanted golden apples. There are also some really weird easter egg whispers hidden in the code. I wont spoil all of them but sometimes the whisper will tell you to jump into the void or swim in lava for 3 seconds. If you actually trust the voice and do it, you get insane legendary rewards like a totem of undying. It is a massive test of trust.

​Beta APIs Setup

Because this pack uses dynamic properties to save your whisper stats permanently and uses background timers for the 5 minute tasks, you absolutely must turn on the Beta APIs experiment in your world settings. If you dont turn it on the custom UI menu will not open and the shadows will never speak to you. So please remember to toggle that before you load up the world.
