RR Chat Poll - Live Voting System

Whats up guys Racing Raftaar here back with another behavior pack. I play a lot of multiplayer minecraft on realms and SMPs with my friends and sometimes it is so hard to make decisions. Like half the server wants to go to the nether and the other half wants to build a new base. Everyone just screams in the chat and it gets super confusing to count who wants what. So i thought why not make a proper voting system right inside the game. That is why i made the RR Chat Poll addon. This pack lets you create live polls in the chat where people can actually vote using a UI menu instead of just typing yes or no. It makes running a multiplayer server so much more organized and fun.

​How To Create A Poll

Creating a poll is actually super easy. When you first join the world you automatically get two items in your inventory to help you out. One is a stick named Create Poll and the other is a clock named Poll. If you want to ask your server a question you just hold the stick and sneak. This opens up a custom UI menu on your screen. You can type your question like Should we fight the ender dragon today. Then you get to type two options like Yes lets do it and No we need more gear. You can also set a custom timer for the poll anywhere from 10 seconds up to 300 seconds. Once you hit submit the poll starts immediately and the whole server gets a loud notification sound so they know a vote is happening.

​Voting System And Live Actionbar

When a poll is active you dont have to type anything in the chat. Every player just has to hold their clock item and use it to open the main poll menu. In the menu you can clearly see the question and the two options and you just click the button to cast your vote. It is completely foolproof because the system tracks who voted and you can only vote one time so nobody can cheat by spamming votes. The coolest part is the action bar display. While the timer is ticking down every single player on the server will see a live countdown timer right above their hotbar. It shows the question and how many seconds are left and exactly how many people have voted so far. At 10 seconds and 5 seconds left it plays a warning ticking sound so people know to hurry up and vote.

​Live Results And Ending The Poll

If you are curious about who is winning while the poll is still running you can check the live results. Inside the clock menu there is a button for Live Results. If you click it you can see a visual progress bar showing exactly what percentage of the server voted for option one and option two. It updates in real time so it is really fun to watch if the vote is very close. When the timer finally hits zero the poll ends automatically. It sends a massive message in the chat showing the final results and the exact percentages. It also announces the winning option in text. The game even plays a celebration level up sound and spawns happy villager particles around everyone on the server to celebrate the decision. It just feels really professional.

​Stats And Tracking

I also added a small tracking system because i know people like stats. The game remembers how many polls you have created and how many polls you have actually voted in. When you open the main menu when no poll is running you can see your personal stats right there. It is just a nice little detail to see how active you are in your server community.

​Beta APIs Setup

You guys already know the drill for my addons. Because this pack uses the new scripting engine to handle the UI menus and tracks the voters using dynamic properties in the background you absolutely must turn on the Beta APIs experiment in your world settings. If you forget to turn this on the stick and clock will not open any menus and the polling system will just not work at all. So please remember to check that setting before you load up your multiplayer world.
