Want your server to look and feel like a real server? Rank Tags gives every player a rank that shows in chat and above their head. Create your own ranks, pick the colors and symbols, change how the chat looks, mute troublemakers and hand out temporary VIP that expires on its own. Everything works from a simple menu. Features
- Custom chat: every message shows the player's rank, name and a chat color, with 5 ready-made styles or your own custom format
- Rank above the head: the rank and the name show over every player (can be turned off)
- 7 default ranks: Owner, Admin, Mod, Helper, VIP, Member and Guest
- In-game Rank Editor: create, edit and delete ranks. Pick the name, color, symbol, chat color, level and permissions
- Temporary ranks: give a rank for 1 hour, 1 day, 7 days or 30 days, or use a custom time like
12h. It expires by itself - Nicknames, name colors and chat tags for the ranks you allow
- Mute system: mute for 5 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day or forever
- Chat protection: cooldown between messages, anti-repeat and an editable word filter
- @mentions with a sound and a message on screen, plus @everyone for staff
- 15 emoji shortcuts like :heart: :star: :skull: :crown:

Default ranks 👑

A lower level means more power. Levels 0 to 2 count as staff. Levels 0 and 1 can use the Rank Editor and Chat Settings. Server operators count as full staff too. Admins and Mods can only give ranks that are lower than their own, and the Owner can't be demoted by anyone else.

Rank Editor ✏️
Owner and Admins can build their own rank list without touching any files:
- Rank name (up to 12 characters) and symbol
- Rank color and chat text color (15 colors)
- Level from 0 to 10
- Allow color codes in chat, for example
&cfor red - Allow nickname, name color and chat tag
- Delete a rank. Players who had it fall back to the default rank
Temporary ranks ⏳
Give VIP for a weekend or a trial period. When the time runs out, the player goes back to the default rank and gets a message. Use the Rank Panel, or the command:
!rank Steve vip 7d
Time formats: 30m, 12h, 7d, 2w.
Moderation 🛡️

Profiles 🎨
Ranks that you allow can customize how they look:
- Nickname (up to 16 characters)
- Name color (15 colors, or the rank color)
- Chat tag (up to 12 characters, shows as [Tag] in chat)
A nickname can't be the real name of another player on the server.

Names with spaces work with quotes, for example !rank "Cool Steve" vip.
Command blocks 🧱

Replace vip with the id of any rank (see !ranks). The tag is removed after the rank is set, and every player always keeps one rt_ tag for their current rank. Great for shops, quests and minigames!
Installation
- Download the
.mcaddonfile. - Open it with Minecraft Bedrock. It imports automatically.
- Create or edit a world and activate the Behavior Pack. There is no Resource Pack.
- Turn on the Beta APIs experiment in the world settings (needed for the custom chat).
- Join your world. The first player to join becomes the Owner.
Requires Minecraft Bedrock 1.21 or newer.
Quick start 🚀
- Join the world. You are the Owner.
- Sneak and use a Book (or type
!menu) to open the menu. - Open Chat Settings and pick the chat style you like.
- Open Rank Editor and make your own ranks.
- Use Rank Panel to give ranks to your friends.
Tips
- Set the default rank in Chat Settings. Every new player gets it.
- Use a short temporary VIP as a reward for events and giveaways.
- Keep the word filter and the cooldown on for public servers.
- Rank levels matter. A Mod can't give a rank that is equal to or higher than Mod.
- Use the
rt_tags to give players special items, areas or kits depending on their rank.
FAQ
Do I need any experimental features?
Yes, one. Turn on Beta APIs to use the custom chat. If it is off, the add-on still loads and the menu, ranks, name tags and mutes work, but the chat format and the ! commands are disabled, and the Owner sees a warning when joining.
Do I need to activate a Resource Pack?
No. This is a single Behavior Pack.
Who becomes the Owner?
The first player who joins the world after you activate the add-on.
Can I give a rank to a player who is offline?
No. The player must be online to get a rank.
Are ranks saved?
Yes. Ranks, nicknames, tags, mutes and settings are saved with the world.
Does it work in multiplayer?
Yes. It is made for worlds with more than one player.
Can players use color codes in chat?
Only the ranks you allow. They type &c, &a and so on. Everyone else has color codes removed.
I still see the normal join message.
Minecraft does not let add-ons hide it, so you see the vanilla message and the Rank Tags message.
Does it work on mobile and console?
It works anywhere Bedrock supports add-ons with scripting and the Beta APIs experiment.

Notes
- Other add-ons that handle chat may not work together with this one.
- Menu buttons only show what your rank is allowed to use.
- Command block ranks need the rank id, not the display name.
