Description

What is Project Veil?

Project Veil steps away from the classic "kill the monster" formula and is a psychological horror/stalker-style Minecraft Bedrock addon. An entity infiltrates your world disguised as a fake player named "Steve_altre_bro" — its goal isn't to kill you, but to watch you, imitate you, and slowly creep into your world.

How Does It Start?

A while after you join your world, "Steve_altre_bro joined the game." appears in chat. From then on, the entity periodically shows up to watch you from a distance, then disappears again — cycling between an active "encounter" period and a quieter "cooldown" period.

The Fear System

At the core of everything is a hidden "fear" value. It rises from things like the entity watching you, strange events (a torch going out, a chest opening on its own, an animal vanishing, odd writing appearing on a sign), special nights, and the state of your "relationship" with the entity.

Relationship State

Separate from fear, there's a whole other behavior layer — how the entity talks to and acts toward you shifts based on how you interact with it: at first it doesn't know you (Observer), then it takes an interest in you (Interested), grows suspicious (Suspicious), turns openly hostile after repeated aggression (Hostile), or — if you're friendly/curious for a long stretch while fear is already high — becomes fixated on you (Obsessed). Two players at the exact same fear level can end up with completely different experiences.

7 Evolution Stages

The entity isn't static — based on accumulated fear and how long you've spent in the current stage, it physically transforms across a total of 7 stages. The fear and time thresholds required to reach the next stage get progressively harder, so as you advance, the entity gets both more disturbing to look at and more aggressive in behavior.

Extra Mechanics

Gaze mechanic: Whether you're looking at it or not changes its behavior — while being watched it stays still/keeps its distance, when you're not looking it dares to get closer.

Imitation: It can mimic your recent actions (the block you broke, the item you used).

Sleep interruption: Sometimes while you sleep, a glitch (a door, a sign, etc.) triggers with a short delay.

Distant structures: In later stages, camp/temple/tower-style structures can rarely appear far away on your map.

Cursed journal: In advanced stages, a book you find can turn out to be "cursed."

Ritual/test system: After certain stages, you can be presented with a kind of "test" — respond correctly and you're rewarded, respond wrong and you're punished with extra fear.

Post-death relapse: Dying repeatedly in a short window spikes your fear even further.

Shared dread: If other players are on the server, some events reference what happened to other players.

Journals

Scattered around the world are journal pages. They form one consistent author's account, written night after night — I won't spoil what they say here, but as you collect more, the story builds on the earlier pages.

So How Do We "Destroy" the Monster?

There's no classic "kill the boss" here — Project Veil isn't a hunting game. Instead there's a banishing ritual: using only vanilla blocks (no new blocks needed), you need to build a specific arrangement — enough signs surrounding you plus a bookshelf nearby. Get the arrangement right, and the entity disappears for a long stretch (40-60 minutes). This was designed as a "secret" mechanic with no in-game hints — something you're meant to discover purely by playing, not by reading a guide.

Ending / Titles

When you die, or once you've survived long enough, a "title" is calculated from your performance so far and shown on screen: Newcomer (died way too early), Banisher (banished the entity at least once), Obsessed (the entity became fixated on you), Hunted (it turned openly hostile and your fear peak was high), Chronicler (you collected a large number of journals), Consumed (you reached a late evolution stage), Unbothered (you were never really scared), or the general fallback, Survivor.
