Well, I don't care

Introducing The Most Unnecessary Block, an add-on that's part of my Y Addon series, which is basically a collection of add-ons that nobody asked for (This isn't my first add-on, but it's the first one I've actually managed to make work 😭)
This add-on adds 2 new blocks (which use invisible entities)

First one is Sifter

Put gravel in and you'll get sand (10 seconds)

Put coarse dirt in and you'll get dirt (10 seconds)

The second one is Mixer

Put gravel and dirt in and you'll get 2 coarse dirt (15 seconds)

I've included two versions of the add-on
Base Version: The standard version
Unstable Version: Includes hopper support, but it still needs more testing, so expect some potential issues
