Mel's Dynamic Lights
Light up the world around you — just hold a torch, lantern, or any glowing item, and the light follows wherever you go.
✅ Achievement-friendly
✅ No experiments required
Dynamic Lighting
Holding any light-emitting item will illuminate the area around you in real time,
with brightness that reflects each item's light level — a Lantern shines brighter than a Torch, just as you'd expect.
For a smoother and more satisfying experience,
brightness transitions gradually whenever you pick up or swap a glowing item.
Colored Lights
(Requires Vibrant Visuals)
Light color reflects the material of the item you're holding.
Offhand Mechanics
Double-sneak to move your held item into the offhand slot.
Keyboard users can also set up a command macro using: /mel:swap
Binding it to "F" gives you the same feel as Java Edition's offhand swap —
note that Bedrock's macro system requires pressing
ALT + F
to trigger it.
Offhand-compatible items:
All Torch variants · All Lantern variants · Lava Bucket
Swapping moves only 1 piece to your offhand,
keeping the rest in your mainhand for use.
Items that Vanilla already supports in the offhand (Shield, Totem, Arrow, etc.) swap as a full stack as usual.
If your offhand already has an item, swapping will automatically return it to your inventory.
If your inventory is full and can't absorb it, you'll see a warning in your action bar instead.
Dropped Items & Entities
Thrown items emit light that follows them wherever they go.
Certain mobs glow as well:
Glow Squid · Magma Cube · Blaze · Charged Creeper
Projectiles & Explosives
Flaming arrows glow as they fly through the air — as do Fireballs, Wither Skulls, and other blazing projectiles.
Lit TNT, TNT Minecarts, and TNT Sulfur Cubes
glow in the moments before detonating.
A Creeper flashes with light as it begins its explosion.
Environmental Mechanics
Players and mobs emit light while on fire.
Water-sensitive items — Torches and Campfires — extinguish automatically when fully submerged.
Sea Pickles only glow while underwater,
matching their real Vanilla behavior.
