Mandela Catalouge

Something has been replacing people. Don't trust what you see, don't answer the door, and don't go to sleep.

A horror add-on inspired by The Mandela Catalogue by Alex Kister, made as a fan-made addon and not an official product.

It's not a mob pack since nothing chases you about with a health bar; instead it's designed to make you nervous regarding your own world, so that you begin to look over your shoulder, pause before opening doors, and think again about going to bed.

HOW IT WORKS
On the first day the only thing that takes place is a broadcast; afterwards, things begin to develop slowly. You hear footsteps which cease when you round the corner. There's a person standing far out in a field but they're not there when you look again. Your television mentions your name. And then, once you've started to relax, it starts to affect you.

True jump scares are deliberately limited so that they never become ordinary; there's always a period of build-up first and then a quiet interval follows each one so that you never know when the next one will occur.

THE ALTERNATES
The broadcasts will contain emergency messages instructing you on what actions to take when they appear. Obey the rules.
The Double looks like a person. It wears your name but doesn't act like you.
- Knocking at night and a voice that you know asking to be admitted.
- A television appearing in your house while you are away from home is not one that is plugged in.
Villagers who are not actually villagers.

NIGHTMARES
Sleep is no longer safe since, when you wake up, it's very likely that you haven't. You find yourself in one of eight nightmares, each of them a different place.

- A hallway that never ends, and something very tall that lives there
- A dinner table full of porcelain dolls who want you to sit down
- A dead field where everyone has their back to you, until you move
- A wall of TVs you're told not to look at
- A stairwell that only goes down, and something crawling up
- A hospital ward where the lights go out one by one
- A bathroom mirror where your reflection stops copying you
- A walkway in complete darkness, and a face that gets closer every time the light flashes

In a nightmare you don't die and you can't lose your things—all you have to do is get through it.

SETTINGS
The first time you join, you'll see a content warning and can change these settings (or later with /mandela:settings):
- Intensity: Unsettling (no jumpscares, just dread), Terrifying, or Relentless
- Jumpscare volume
- Reduced flashing
- Comfort mode (no camera shake, no frozen controls)

COMMANDS (operators)
/mandela:settings, /mandela:debug, /mandela:nightmare [name], /mandela:fire [event], /mandela:day, /mandela:pause, /mandela:reset

INSTALLING
Import the .mcaddon and make sure both packs are turned on; no experiments are required.
The Beta Extras pack is optional and requires that the Beta APIs experiment be enabled; it includes chat-based scares (where your own messages are replied to by the system, creating a second 'you' in the chat) and torches that do not remain lit.

The game works on both the phone and the PC, whether played solo or with other players; figures intended for one player only appear to that player.

WARNING
Bizarre sudden noises, full-screen faces, flashing pictures, false "connection lost" screens, and fake chat messages attributed to you. The content is not suitable for younger players or for anyone who is sensitive to jump scares or flashing lights; none of these things will damage your world.

If you've found a bug, please leave a comment explaining what took place and the version of the game that you're using.
