Description
In Fault: Story Mode (V1)
Something's watching. Something's waiting. And something used to be friendly.
In Fault has grown from its beta roots into a full story-driven horror experience. What starts as a quiet, unsettling world slowly unravels the more you push — the more you provoke, the worse things get. Not everything in these woods wants to hurt you. Not at first.
Tread carefully. Some choices don't undo themselves.
⚠️ Version Notice
This is V1, the first full story release — a major step up from the earlier beta build. Please leave feedback and report anything unusual!
Features
Mr. Friendly
A conversational NPC with a full custom AI system — greetings, questions, apologies, threats, and small talk are all recognized. He remembers your name, tracks trust and anger over time, unlocks backstory lore as trust builds, and will reach out to you if you go quiet too long. Insult or attack him and he reacts accordingly; kindness is remembered too.
<Mr.Friendly
Mr. Upset
The core chase threat. Dynamically adjusts movement speed based on distance to the player, breaks through blocks in its path, climbs steep terrain, and locks onto the nearest target with smooth pathing. On capture, triggers a forced face-to-face jumpscare sequence with camera control, sound, and screen shake. In its stalking form, uses real-time line-of-sight detection to duck behind the nearest tree or log when spotted, peeking out periodically to check on the player, and vanishing if approached too closely.
<Mr.Upset
Death Seeker
You can find him at night and he is very fast but not very powerful. There could be a rare, split-second encounter tied to block breaking. Roughly a 3% chance per block mined to briefly spawn, accompanied by a jumpscare sound, before disappearing almost instantly.
<Death Seeker
Corrupted Mr. Friendly
Spawns in packs of 3–7 at night, but only once the story's threat level has escalated. Despawns automatically after a short time.
<Corrupted Mr.Friendly
Story Progression System
A persistent world flag tracks whether the story has "gone wrong." Mr. Friendly's death spawns a sadder, already-agitated version; killing that version spawns a fully hostile form and permanently escalates the world's danger, unlocking Corrupted Mr. Friendly and rare Mr. Upset spawns.
Atmosphere
Custom sky color and volumetric fog that shifts between a blood-red day and pitch-black night. Full custom music replaces the vanilla soundtrack, layered with random ambient horror sound cues.

Other Details
Block breaking and placing is disabled while Mr. Upset is active. A live distance indicator warns you how close it is. A shaking "RUN" prompt appears on-screen during an active chase.
