What's new

Herobrine Creepypasta — v1.5.6

Important: The previous public release was v1.5.3, so this changelog includes all finalized changes introduced between v1.5.3 and v1.5.6.

Version 1.5.6 significantly reworks Herobrine’s close-range encounter system, making his appearances less dependent on normal sightings and much closer to the unpredictable behavior inspired by From The Fog.

👁️ Completely Reworked Behind-the-Player Encounter

Herobrine’s special appearance directly behind the player has been redesigned.

Previously, this encounter depended on other systems such as repeated normal sightings or long periods without a successful normal appearance.

Those trigger systems have now been completely removed.

The close encounter is now its own independent system.

New Periodic Appearance Check

Every 3 seconds, the add-on performs a new chance roll for Herobrine to appear directly behind a player.

The chance depends on the currently selected Herobrine rarity:

  • Common: 5%

  • Rare: 1.5%

  • Legendary: 0.5%

These chances are calculated independently from normal Herobrine appearances.

This means Herobrine no longer needs to successfully appear near a tree, wall, structure or other valid environmental cover before the close encounter can happen.

Normal encounters and behind-the-player encounters can now operate as separate systems.

🎲 Rarity Now Directly Controls Close Encounters

The rarity setting now affects how frequently the behind-the-player apparition is attempted.

The system performs one roll every 3 seconds:

Common

  • 5% chance per check

  • approximately 50 / 1000

Rare

  • 1.5% chance per check

  • approximately 15 / 1000

Legendary

  • 0.5% chance per check

  • approximately 5 / 1000

A successful roll creates one single appearance attempt.

If the selected position is invalid at that exact moment, the attempt simply fails.

The system does not repeatedly retry until Herobrine successfully appears.

A new roll will occur normally during a future 3-second check.

❌ Removed Old Close-Encounter Triggers

The following systems are no longer used:

Removed: Repeated Sighting Trigger

The old system where:

7 normal sightings → 3–4 close Herobrine encounters

has been completely removed.

Normal 7-block and 15-block sightings no longer build toward a close-encounter sequence.

Removed: “No Herobrine for X Minutes” Trigger

The temporary system that forced Herobrine to appear behind the player after a long period without a normal appearance has also been removed.

There are no longer separate timers such as:

  • 15 minutes for Common

  • 30 minutes for Rare

  • 1 hour for Legendary

The new independent 3-second probability system replaces both previous mechanics.

🧍 Improved Close-Encounter Poses

The behind-the-player apparition now has its own dedicated pose behavior.

It can no longer appear using only the base no_pose state.

Every successful close apparition now receives one of two visual poses:

  • 50% chance — Idle

    • animation.herobrine_head.still

  • 50% chance — Crouched

    • animation.herobrine_head.still_sneak

animation.armor_stand.no_pose is still used internally as the base armor stand animation, but it is always combined with either the normal idle or crouched Herobrine pose.

This creates a more consistent and unsettling close encounter.

Normal Encounters Are Unchanged

This pose change applies only to the behind-the-player apparition.

The normal 7-block and distant 15-block encounters continue using their previous three-way pose system:

  • no_pose

  • no_pose + idle

  • no_pose + crouched

Their behavior has not been changed.

🪧 Reduced Sign Chance for Close Encounters

The chance for Herobrine to leave a mysterious sign when disappearing from the behind-the-player encounter has been reduced.

Previous chance: 20%
New chance: 3%

The sign system still respects:

  • Paranoias ON/OFF

  • Sinister Signs ON/OFF

  • safe terrain placement rules

  • existing dynamic sign messages

This makes signs considerably rarer and prevents close encounters from creating them too frequently.

🎭 Equalized Paranoia Chances

The main paranoia-event selection has been rebalanced.

All paranoia categories in the main random selection now have the same base chance of being chosen.

The system currently contains 12 possible paranoia results, each occupying exactly one result in the main random roll.

This prevents specific events from being artificially much rarer than others.

Examples include:

  • unusual sounds

  • cave ambience

  • teleport-related events

  • ghost/paranormal events

  • redstone torches

  • mysterious signs

  • torch manipulation

  • fire-related paranoia

  • other existing paranoia events

If a specific paranoia type is disabled through the menu and its result is selected, that event simply does not execute.

🌲 Normal Herobrine Encounters Remain Independent

The established normal apparition systems are preserved.

Herobrine can still appear approximately:

  • 7 blocks behind the player

  • 15 blocks behind the player as a fallback

These encounters continue using environmental geometry such as:

  • trees

  • walls

  • cliffs

  • ruins

  • stacked blocks

  • other nearby structures suitable for hiding

The new close-encounter probability does not replace normal Herobrine appearances.

Instead, both systems can operate independently.

This is especially useful in areas where the player spends a long time away from suitable cover, since the close encounter no longer depends on the normal geometry system.

👤 Close Encounter Behavior Preserved

The redesigned behind-the-player apparition still preserves its established behavior:

  • Herobrine appears approximately 3 blocks directly behind the selected player.

  • Uses rotated ~ 0.

  • Uses only the normal Y layer.

  • The older Y− and Y+ attempts remain removed.

  • Checks for valid ground.

  • Checks for free leg/head space.

  • Does not intentionally spawn directly inside another player.

  • Herobrine faces the player selected as the encounter target.

  • Uses the normal close-range sighting raycast with approximately r=0.9.

  • Any player reaching approximately 2.5 blocks from Herobrine causes him to disappear.

  • If the selected target moves more than approximately 6 blocks away, the apparition disappears.

  • Maximum lifetime remains approximately 30 seconds.

  • Existing cave ambience behavior is preserved.

  • Dynamic Light support remains active when enabled.

  • Current skin/random-skin settings are respected.

💡 Dynamic Light Preserved

The Dynamic Light system introduced and stabilized in v1.5.3 remains unchanged.

When enabled:

  • Herobrine produces an invisible Light Block level 7 around his upper body/head area.

  • The light follows Herobrine when he is repositioned.

  • The previous light is removed when his position changes.

  • The remaining light is removed when Herobrine disappears.

  • Normal world blocks are not intentionally replaced.

  • The system uses minecraft:light_block_7.

  • Dynamic Light remains enabled by default.

  • It can still be toggled through Herobrine’s appearance customization menu.

The new behind-the-player apparition is fully compatible with the Dynamic Light system.

🎨 Existing Visual Improvements Preserved

All visual improvements from v1.5.3 remain included:

  • Vibrant Visuals/PBR compatibility.

  • Fixed Herobrine idle animation.

  • Fixed crouched idle animation.

  • Reliable animation reaffirmation while Herobrine remains stationary.

  • Movement animations remain separate from stationary poses.

  • Modern Herobrine remains the default appearance.

  • Modern Herobrine remains the first option in the skin menu.

  • Random Skins remains the final option.

  • Updated shared helmet icon remains applied across the skin catalog.

⚙️ Technical Cleanup

Several obsolete systems were removed as part of the close-encounter rewrite.

This includes logic related to:

  • counting normal Herobrine sightings;

  • triggering a sequence after repeated sightings;

  • maintaining long inactivity timers;

  • rarity-based inactivity limits;

  • multi-encounter close sequences;

  • unnecessary retry behavior from those older systems.

The result is a simpler system:

Every 3 seconds → check rarity chance → optionally attempt one close apparition.

This reduces unnecessary state tracking and makes the behavior easier to predict internally while remaining unpredictable to the player.

🎮 Compatibility

Version 1.5.6 continues targeting:

  • Minecraft Bedrock 26.44

  • CurseForge listing compatibility with 26.40

  • min_engine_version: 1.26.40

  • Vibrant Visuals

  • PBR-capable Resource Packs

The add-on remains built entirely using Minecraft Bedrock:

  • functions

  • commands

  • JSON

  • animations

  • Resource Pack systems

No JavaScript, Script API, or external API is required.

Summary

v1.5.6 makes Herobrine considerably more unpredictable.

The behind-the-player apparition is no longer tied to normal sightings or long inactivity timers.

Instead, it exists as an independent encounter that can be attempted every few seconds, with its frequency controlled directly by the selected rarity.

This allows Herobrine to remain a threat even when the player is far away from trees, walls or other structures required by the normal apparition system.

The close encounter is also more visually consistent: Herobrine will always appear either standing still or crouched, with an exact 50/50 chance, instead of occasionally appearing with only the base armor stand pose.

Together with rarer mysterious signs, equalized paranoia probabilities, Dynamic Light, improved animations and the existing environmental apparition systems, v1.5.6 pushes Herobrine Creepypasta closer to the unpredictable atmosphere inspired by From The Fog.
