What is up guys, Racing Raftaar here again with another brand new behavior pack. I have been playing a lot of survival Minecraft lately, and I realized that we can tame wolves, cats, and even parrots, but we cannot tame any of the actual monsters. That got me thinking, what if we could tame the most iconic and dangerous mob in the entire game? Yes, I am talking about the creeper. It sounds crazy to keep a walking bomb as a pet, but I thought it would be a really fun challenge to build. So I spent the last few days coding the RR Creeper Pet behavior pack, and it is finally ready for you guys to play.
To make this work smoothly, I completely rewrote the behavior file for the creeper entity. Normally, creepers just run at you and explode, ruining your builds and ending your hardcore runs. But with this pack installed, you can actually approach them if you are careful. To tame a creeper, you need to feed it gunpowder. It makes sense, right? Since they drop gunpowder, it is basically their favorite food. You might need a few pieces of gunpowder to fully tame one, just like how you need multiple bones for a wolf. Once the creeper is tamed, heart particles will appear, and it will stop being hostile towards you.
Having a pet creeper is actually incredibly useful for survival mode. Once tamed, the creeper will follow you around the world just like a loyal dog. But instead of just biting things, it uses its explosive nature to protect you. I added some custom logic in the main script file to handle their attacks. If a zombie, skeleton, or any other hostile mob attacks you, your pet creeper will run up to them and explode. But here is the best part. I modified the explosion properties so that a tamed creeper explosion does not damage you or break your blocks. It will only damage the enemy mobs caught in the blast radius.
Now, you are probably wondering what happens to your pet after it explodes. Does it just die? No, I wanted to make sure you do not lose your pet every time it fights for you. After a tamed creeper uses its explosion attack to save you, it will survive but its health will drop significantly. It gets exhausted and injured from the blast. This is where the new healing mechanic comes in. You need to take care of your pet by healing it, otherwise it might die from the next attack. To heal your injured creeper, you just need to feed it more gunpowder or redstone dust. Feeding it will slowly regenerate its health back to maximum, making it ready to defend you again. It adds a really cool bond between you and your pet because you actually have to manage its health after battles.
I also made sure the pack is super clean and optimized. Everything is organized inside the manifest file so it loads instantly without causing any lag on your worlds or servers. I even added a custom pack icon so it looks official when you are selecting it in your resource settings.
Beta APIs Setup
Because this pack uses custom scripts to handle the taming mechanics, explosion damage cancellation, and the healing system, you absolutely must turn on the Beta APIs experiment in your world settings. If you forget to enable Beta APIs before loading the world, the custom scripts will not run, and the creepers will just act like normal vanilla monsters and probably blow you up. Please make sure that is checked.
