Better Death Messages

Better Death Messages turns every death into a story.
This lightweight add-on replaces boring chat messages with fun, dramatic, and vanilla-style death messages that react to how you died and who (or what) caused it.

Deaths caused by lava, falls, explosions, poison, dripstone, starvation, projectiles, and more each have their own unique messages. Weapon kills get extra attention, with special messages for swords, axes, tridents, pickaxes, hoes, shovels, spears, and other tools. Rare dramatic lines can appear, and custom-named weapons unlock an exclusive set of legendary messages that make those kills even more fun.

Perfect for SMPs, realms, and survival worlds that want more personality in chat — without changing gameplay.
